Can I Gain Size in Revision

Gents,

On 28 October I was implanted with a 22cm Titan Coloplast. All was going great until i got an infection 4.5 weeks later. They did a salvage operation a week ago and put in a Rigicon 20 cm malleable and all is going well thus far.

Guys, perhaps due to the infection they shorted me about 3/4 of an inch, which at my length is noticeable and a big deal to me. I went from being about average to smaller. Can’t help but feel like I’ve been cheated and while I’m grateful to be functional again and have the malleable it’s not what I wanted.

I’m gonna wait 6 months or so but down the road would a revision surgery to a IPP give me the opportunity to regain some of my length? I’m gonna try out the malleable but just want to think through my options.

Has anyone had revision surgery from malleable to IPP that increased length?

Thanks in advance.

It should be possible and likely. My personal opinion is that it depends on the skill of the surgeon. You will have to choose somebody competent in this special subtype of surgery.

Prof. Wilson made a study where he could upsize prior scarred corpora by 2,2 cm.

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/16839331/

In this study the patients swithed from IPPs to bigger IPPs but I think it is still relevant. Also they often downsize you by 1 cm when inserting a malleable to lower the erosion risk.

Hi Gator,

I second Eloquent's words on that. To give you real life examples I'll just re-direct you to these profiles:

https://www.franktalk.org/phpBB3/memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=3340
These were guys going through an infection with temporary malleable and then re-inserted inflattable, ending up with size they've had prior to the infection.

I've also been talking on Discord to this young fella, who lost way too much after having emergency malleable inserted: https://www.franktalk.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=24760&p=233395#p233395
Last we talked in October the length issue had just magically solved itself - and he doesn't understand how. Maybe somebody else will chime in to give their insight on how that could be possible, since no upsizing has been done meanwhile.

Hey guys, thank you so much for the detailed responses. I really appreciate them! It’s a challenging time as I thought I was through the implant process only to be felled by an infection. 4.5 weeks in! My hope is the malleable is sufficient and that I can improve length either through traction or (depending on how malleable works) a revision surgery.

Gatorman97 you have been lucky because they have been able to implant you with a malleable one.My first AMS malleable implant was implanted incorrectly. The second EXCEL Mentor I gained a little length, but became infected. The doctor had to explant it after many problems and I was almost a year without a prosthesis. I had to do rehabilitation (VED, cialis 20 mg, stretching). With the third titan implant I maintained the length and gained quite thickness compared to the two previous prostheses. After fifteen years, the prosthesis is already causing problems and the revision is getting closer. I am worried about the issue of infection, the size...

What problems is it causing after 15 years?

More and more frequently I have problems inflating it. It seems to be stuck. I have to deflate it a little and inflate it again. Other times when I press the pump, there is a noise but it does not inflate. There are no problems deflating it. I suppose that after fifteen years the valve system has been deteriorating. I am already preparing for when the time comes, to immediately replace the prosthesis. I think when I got it it had a lifetime warranty, but I'm not sure.
