Implanted 12/13/24 by Dr. Eid

Well, implanted 3 days ago on Friday by Dr Eid…surprisingly pain first and second night not bad, with moderate painkiller. I followed the icing protocol, was worried penis wasn’t pointing straight up as it was supposed to, texted Eid who responded and said that it was indeed pointing up and held in place by the catheter. Then, in the middle of the night, last night, and this morning I had very bad pain in the area where the reservoir is. Dr. Eid’s protocol is you go in day three with the goal of activating and then getting the hot baths where you start to cycle.

His nurse removed my bandage, cleaned me up and that’s when I saw it. My scrotum like a grapefruit and all purple. She said he wouldn’t be able to activate today, okay, fine. But then, when Dr. Eid came into the room with his nurse practitioner, he took a look and said, “look at this!” (Not in a good way.) Frankly, I was a bit taken aback. he told me to begin the hot baths lying on my back while holding up my scrotum to try to bring the swelling down and told me not to attempt to activate. He said to return next week… OK, I guess these things can happen, but what I am a bit troubled by is that he spent maybe five minutes with me. He also didn’t tell me that he is on vacation next week so that I will be seeing the nurse practitioner. I mentioned the pain in the area of the reservoir, but he didn’t seem to be that concerned.

I then asked him if I was given the size we had anticipated, 20 cm or if he had to do any trimming. He said he didn’t remember, which I guess I can understand, but he said he would have to check the records. When he left after just several minutes, I was expecting him to come back with that information, he did not. I’m sorry, I know he does a lot of these, but this is my penis and my life and it was a very big decision for me. I was hoping for a little… encouragement. Before I left, I sought out the nurse practitioner and spoke to him about my concerns, and he was very positive and encouraging, phew! I mean, honestly, I was quite upset at the appearance of the penis and scrotum. I’ve seen pictures from other guys who have posted and they look much better than mine.

I am home, I took one of the hot baths, which I would not have been able to manage without my girlfriend helping me in and out of the tub. Then I was lying on the couch with my legs elevated when the reservoir area started to hurt really really bad. I reached out to Doctor Eid just to get hopefully get more information… I asked if my pain in the reservoir area, where I also feel some pinching, is related to the large hematoma and swelling of my testicles. He said it should resolve itself in two or three weeks. OK, so much for early activation. He said if there is a real problem (infection?) It would show itself at the three week mark so not to be so concerned now. He’s the expert and I know he knows what he’s doing, but I wish we had better communication today when I was in the office

Has anyone else had significant swelling of the testicles after the procedure? What about the sharp pain by the reservoir? The testicles don’t hurt, just crazy swollen …Maybe I’m worrying too much?

Thank you

Not had my procedure done by any of the "famous" high volume surgeons, but i am exactly 3 weeks post op today. yes my testies got massively swollen a concerning amount. the swelling started dying off after about a week, my reservoir pain was pretty bad initally, felt like i had done far too many sit ups, that also lasted for about 5 days or so, everything calmed down going into week 2. By the end of week 2 is when my reservoir started giving me grief, it still is now not massive pain more like a dull ache and occasionally throws the odd punch but the pain lasts 1 to 2 seconds at most.

If you'd like i could pm a picture across of just how big they got but its not pretty.

We have a similar experience… I’m relieved that your swelling thankfully went down, which gives me hope, thank you. My doctor said it should resolve itself in a week or two and to keep taking hot baths.
Regarding my reservoir, I was able to lessen some of the pain by taking off the jockstrap, which was very tight and pressing right on it. Instead, I have snug underwear with the penis pointing up with some gauze pads packed in there. (My doctor wants the penis to be pointing up) seems to be working much better.

Feel free to PM a picture, my situation is not pretty either… thank you for responding. It’s helpful to know that others have gone through similar situations and it has improved.

Dr. Eid sounds like my surgeon who is a very well known and high volume surgeon. Little information beforehand and even less afterwards .. and kind of waves off issues till they get dramatic.

The one thing I've learned in life is that doctors can get flustered and embarased as well. They are, after all, human. With him being a good surgeon and high-volume I bet he was knocked off kilter a bit by your case and may not have realized his manner was a bit brusque.

Don't be afraid to be your own patient advocate - reach out - tell him your concerns and let him know what you need as a patient. I.e. information and reassurance that things will be OK.

I agree. There seems to be a tendency that if it's not an obvious infection or erosion, it's not considered a big deal and we can sweep it under the rug. Some physicians label individuals as "difficult patients" when they ask multiple questions. I was in an exam room once, and one patient from next room had a genuine concern about his penis pointing to the left and being somewhat twisted post-op. The physician's response was, "Your wife won't mind that, and you can make it straight and put it in." I was at least expecting an answer with science-based reasoning for such an outcome. This was in a glorified high-volume office.

This is the first I'm hearing of Eid not being ultra meticulous with his patients. I wonder whether it due to his advanced age. I know he has had to take time off due to sickness recently. Does make me wonder what else has diminished in him due to his old age.

You mention that your surgery was scheduled in November 2024 but your surgeon became sick. Was that also Eid?

I wish you a fast recovery from your symptoms. If your symptoms don't resolve by the time you see Eid next it may not be a bad idea to consult with another doc for example Clavell or Hakky.
