The End.

Postby stmfttr » Wed Jan 15, 2025 2:52 pm

The beginning...

June 2019 - Implanted w/ Coloplast Titan and OTR pump.
September 3, 2024 - Implanted pump failed.
November 19, 2024 - Replacement surgery, Coloplast Titan and OTR pump
December19,2024 - Doctor released me. Amazing length and girth and rock hard.
December 21, 2024 - Emergency room, fever/chills/ body aches. Massive infection, WBC count 49, B/P 89 over 42. Admitted.
December 22, 2024 - Surgery to remove ALL implanted components. Due to infection, replacement was NOT an option. (Even malleable)
December 24, 2024 - Culture from lab - "Group B Strep". Went home. Started daily antibiotic infusion (14 days at an Infusion clinic)

Merry Christmas

January 7, 2025 - Completed infusion therapy. Started oral antibiotics. Cefdinir 300mg 2x/days (10 days)
January 9, 2025 - Urologist removed stitches and drains (penoscrotal and Penrose drain and 7" incision-lower left abdomen w/JP drain)

Healing

I'd post pics...But you DON'T want to see them, trust me.

The End.

that first revision man terrifies me. Personal observation i've seen so many people get an infection on their first revision doesnt seem to matter if its 1 month or 5 years. i guess the "upside" is that from these same observations the reimplant after infection seems to go just fine.

Man what a ride, sorry to hear of such a bad experience. I had my original Titan implanted Feb of 2019,it also failed 5yrs later in March of 2024. I had a AMS LGX implanted in June of 2024 the second time, so far so good. Hope you get yours straightened out.

He can, chances are they want him to heal first and make sure the infection is fully cleared before trying again,. I've seen people go quiet some time before being allowed to be reimplanted again. I think the typical time frame is usually between 3 and 6 months.

Don't be quick to blame the revision. We had a large hospital here that was torn down completely. A new one was built behind where the old one was. The popular rumor was that the old one had an infection contamination that they couldn't get cleaned out of the building. I can't remember if it was staph or strep.
Sometimes it can be the facilities. My dr sent me home auickly after surgery. He said that hospitals are the worst place for infections.

I'm sorry man. That's awful. Heal up and take care of yourself.

Unless an implant is placed after removal, the corpora immediately begin to close and scar internally.

First, it is NOT a revision, it's a replacement. Cylinders, pump, reservoir, and tubing are all removed.
Next, the first implant lasted 5+ years. Everything was taken out and a new, complete was installed. The replacement lasted 4+ weeks and was functioning GREAT.
Last, as for infections on the first implant, replacement is not an issue.
