Its not their business. Period. Its a health related issue - and have your doctor write a note.

When I was asked by my employer I told them that it's a private issue I wasn't comfortable discussing with them, but I'd need time off to recover (week or so) and could provide a doctor's note - which they declined since I'd be using my PTO.

The problem with telling them something that isn't true, is if they DO find out what its for, and its not what you told them - they could get upset. Now - thats not to say they SHOULD - but people are tricky creatures - so I just go with honesty. Its none of their business.

My Doc, told me to say it was a hernia op. He advised not even telling friends, that he had heard so tough stories from patients that were forth right.
Good luck brother

I told one person I had a cyst on my bladder. That got around and no questions from anyone after.

My excuse was a cyst on a testicle.

People close to me knew I'd already had prostate cancer and I just told them it was surgery related to the cancer. That gave them understanding about the area in question and no one asked more than that.

Good luck

I just told them I was having surgery and left it at that. I have a history of back surgeries and structures so I just let them "think" about what it is or could be. But most of the time they don't even ask.

Other than one close work friend whose opinion I greatly value, who I might've called upon for help if needed, I said "medical procedure" and left it at that. I'm sure people are curious but fuck 'em. If they don't know better than to pry I'm going to remind them.
