Infrapubic approach - pump placement and tubing

Postby staphylococcusecoli » Thu Oct 23, 2025 12:08 am

For those who got an IPP via the infrapubic incision approach:

Are you comfortable with where the pump rests in your scrotum?

Does the palpable tubing bother you after recovery?
Thank you.

Not really, as I wasn't consistent enough with pulling the pump down in the first couple of weeks and it migrated upwards and healed there.

I now understand why the nurse was so insistent after surgery that I pull it down regularly.

My bad.
RALP with 75% nerve sparing 10/24.
Some tumescence from 5 weeks post op. Erection improved with pills, stalling @ 60%
Frisky with young wife again. Implanted Rigicon 10X 20 cm + 1 cm RTE mid April 25.

Sorry to hear this and I hope things get better for you.

Could you share the pulling protocol advised by your surgeon? Is it done only for the first 2 weeks?

I've had both pump placements and infrapubic is way better in my opinion. It is far less noticeable and the tubing isn't intrusive.

The nurse just told me to pull down and forward every day for the first few weeks as I recall.

So as someone just getting in line for going bionic, where else do they put the pump if not in your scrotum?

The pump always resides in the scrotum, however, some have a strong opinion that the infrapubic route allows less direct and less precise pump placement than the penoscrotal method, increasing the risk of suboptimal pump positioning and post-op high riding pump issues leading to revision surgeries.

Thank you. Is it harder to do it with all the pain, soreness and bruising?

No, not at all.
Remember, this is during the immediate 2 week post-op period when you're drugged up to the eyeballs with painkillers, so it's not a problem.
I never had much pain anyway.
