Dr Clavell avoids using a JP drain post surgery. Does anyone know why while other surgeons use it? I never remembered to ask him and don't want to bother him anymore. But still curious.

Good video, thanks for posting I hope to use him if/ when a revision is necessary, will probably switch to a cx. I ve read he takes medicare. I hope.

I don't know what his reasons are, but I know firsthand that I didn't need one. I had VERY little bruising or any excess fluid that needed draining. Major reasons I chose Dr. Clavell was for his pain management protocol and that he didn't use a catheter or drains. Although I'm not a doctor, it makes sense to me that the fewer access points for bacteria and infection, the better.

After the surgery I went straight back to my hotel room, laid about as my wife waited on me, and 44 hours post surgery I was on a 5 hour plane flight home. No pain, not even any discomfort. Surgery on a Wednesday, flew home Friday, sitting in my home office chair at work on Monday. Only ever took alternating Advil and Tylenol for a couple of days the following week as the nerve block wore off. No drains, no catheter, no problem.

I'm glad to hear you had such a smooth recovery. Reading some of the recent implant journals some folks end up with tons of fluids and swelling. Everyone reacts to surgery differently.

I had visited him recently and forgot to ask him about this. Again found him very approachable and he has a great way of reassuring his patients.

Jage64, I’m about the same age and had my implant just a little longer than you. I just watched that video a couple days ago. I had infrapubic done first time with a titan . Absol will use Clavel when the time comes for revision. I will see if he can do scrotal next time. Seems like he is among the best! Im 6 hours drive from Houston so will just drive when the time comes.

Even though I cannot speak directly for Clavell, I remember I asked him about this. He only places drains when doing revision surgery and he has to remove the old reservoir.

He explained that the drain is placed to "suck" blood and fluid after surgery. Most of the blood comes from the corporotomy and he does things in a way that the corporotomy is "shut closed" and "water tight". The gauze around the scrotum that he puts in afterwards keeps things tight to avoid swelling developing.
