Do you have any tips for a seat cushion and clothing?

Postby Chris1967 » Thu Jan 01, 2026 10:34 am

I need your help. My surgery is on January 27, 2026, in Lübeck, Germany. I live 500 km away. I would then drive home about 5 days after the surgery (my wife will drive). Do you have any tips for a seat cushion and clothing for this trip?

Hi Chris, I had a 3.5 hour car ride home the next day. I actually was comfortable in the front seat while my wife drove. The vehicle is a Jeep Cherokee and I was wearing loose fitting jeans. I'm not sure if I was just lucky but maybe other comments will tell a different story. Good Luck with your surgery.

Baggy Light Cotton Britches. I bought a pair of oversized ones, baggy and light enough that you can barely notice them on. and a cooler of ice. I drove 400 hundred miles two days after mine with a catheter and kept some sort of ice supply on most of trip.
What was a bit brutal was I drove about 100 miles to get my stitches out and every bump was noticed. Going around a curve with a bridge I could feel each nut vibrate consecutively.

Good luck and welcome.

Wear loose fitting sweatpants. I had an 18 hour ride home. I made two stops and I drove.
Good Luck!

Donut seat cushion with a large opening in the middle worked for me. Used it at home too for the first week or so.

Thanks for your contributions. Here in Germany, you usually stay in the hospital for 3 to 4 days after the operation.

I rode home 4-1/2 hours in passenger front seat with wife driving the day after my surgery. Wore sweat pants and wore no underwear. Was pumped up probably 50-60% percent. Had ice packs in cooler and used them on and off the whole way. Little to no pain or issues. Think the nerve block the use lasted until second day after as it was a little more uncomfortable the next day. Stopped twice and walked around a bit. Wore an oversized sweat shirt that hung down in front to hide to bulge when we stopped to relieve myself.

Besides an inflatable donut,(the inflatable aspect allows for adjustability), I would recommend an assortment of towels, baby blankets or washcloths to allow you to adjust your swollen package in various ways so as to increase your overall comfort.
And a narcotic or two might improve your trip or at least your memory of it. Blessings to you and your surgeon.

Gown, robe imo. The lighter the better. Wear jacket over it, and snickers. That's all. Turn the heat up in the car if it's cold outside. Especially if you have somebody driving you home. If you have to get out you can even play the ill husband that is being helped by his wife :) Won't be that far from the truth anyway. lol That is unless you feel very uncomfortable about looking strange in public.

That's what I'm planning to do and I don't have anyone driving me home post-op.

The way I figured I have 2 jilabas I got in Morocco. I intend to wear jacket over one of them and probably drive home at night around 9pm. Why at night? First: little to no traffic. Second, if I need to go, I hope to be able to pull in somewhere out of sight by the side of the road instead of turning into the rest stop.

I'm 1.5 hours drive away. My doctor says I should be able to drive home next day. If I feel able I'd go on the night of the surgery. I have a robo car that drives itself, I intend to put it into Chill mode instead of my usual Mad Max when it tries to imitate a maniac on the highway and have it drive me home with minimum to no intervention from yours truly.

However to quote the greatest philosopher of the 20th century, esteemed Mike Tyson: "Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face". I realize that. I see as the most important part of being in the driver seat soon after the surgery is the relationship between my dick and the steering wheel. I'd be sure to be extra careful for the former to avoid the later. lol Pull the seat down, put the wheel all the way up. Let's pray. lmao

It's just that I have everything set up in my house for the crucial first 3 days: I even got a new supercomfortable recliner sleeper with tilt primarily having this surgery in mind. It's wide enough to lie in, but tight enough to prevent me from twisting and turning when I sleep. Intend to sleep in it for the first 3 nights. Still got to buy little things though (frozen peas, urine collection jag, new type of underwear, etc.) but that would be done closer to the date of.

A question for those that went through it... I live on the top floor of the two story apartment building with no elevator. I know I'd have to climb up there when I first get home. I'm sure I'd navigate it somehow, but when do you think I should be able to freely walk up and down the stairs, conservatively speaking?
