Post surgery Dr Eid

Postby Amerauto » Tue Apr 14, 2026 10:40 pm

I have my first consultation with Dr Eid on Monday and hopefully can book a surgery date at the appt. Im an hour drive from his office. Would you recommend I stay in NYC for a few days post surgery or drive home immediately after surgery?

After surgery, you won’t be the one driving. But maybe for follow up visits. I just got my Titan yesterday in Atlanta, and I’m in a similar situation. About an hour drive to the surgery center. Eid’s scheduling is probably not much different than my doctor. Office visit on Friday to remove the drain.
(But, I’ll skip the Friday appointment because my wife is a nurse, and she will take out the drain.) Then one week from surgery for instruction on cycling the implant.
I would much rather sleep in my own bed. And you wouldn’t really get to enjoy a visit to NYC because you’ll be resting, and icing. On the other hand, if you have a friend you can stay with, who might be willing to help you out, that might work. Pain meds from the surgery last quite a while, so an hour drive back home was not that bad, and I would much rather be at home.

Thanks for the info. You’re lucky to have a nurse in the house. How you do feel 1 day later? I forgot about the foley too. I read that they want you to remove it and that aint happening. Did you leave the hospital with a foley?

A one hour drive after surgery should not be a tough trip. However, they will require you to have a driver so as the passenger you can recline the seat and chill. IAs an out-patient more than likely you go home with a drain bag and a foley catheter. Neither are that difficult to remove, but the catheter feels funny sliding out. (and feels good to get it out!) The option is to stay overnight if it's a hospital setting and let the nurses remove them the next morning. My advice with the drain bag is leave it in if blood is still filling the bag quickly. Removed mine as soon as I woke the next morning even though I still had lots of drainage. Believe that caused me to have increased swelling.

Dr. Hakky uses a foley to easily identify the urethra during surgery to be sure it doesn’t get damaged. Then they removed it before I left the O.R.
I have removed a foley at home after a hernia surgery, but that was before I met the nurse. It’s not difficult, but I understand the hesitation. I’m sure I could remove the drain, but as you say, I’m lucky to have a nurse in the house.
So glad to be on the recovery side now. I know I have a long way to go, but things are looking up. (Literally)
You’ll be there soon.

I guess if Dr Eid leaves everything in, I may hire a nurse to come to my house and fix me. How about sleeping in a bed vs a reclining chair. I had gall bladder surgery years ago and sitting down or standing up was near impossible. That surgery affected use of core muscles. Does the implant surgery hurt in a similar way?
