Why is cycling so painful?

Postby sydsider » Mon Sep 07, 2026 5:50 pm

Hi guys, (44) I am really struggling with cycling at the moment. I am six weeks post op with a Titan 24 +1

I was cleared to start cycling about 2 weeks ago but the pain was too much so the Uro told me to keep deflated for a week and allow things to heal a little longer. I saw him last week, he said everything looked okay and I should cycle as much as I can tolerate. He said he doesn’t oversize but he aggressively sizes and if I read between the lines I think that’s why cycling is painful? I’m not sure.

I am currently cycling every second day, I don’t believe I’m pumping to the max, it surely doesn’t look and feel like it is max inflated. I know girth and length ‘may’ come back with time. But cycling is such a deterrent right now. I pump to as much as I can tolerate, leave it for 2 mins and deflate. After deflating I am in pain (particularly under my head) for about 15 mins then it subsides.

I know everyone’s body and recovery is different. But does this sound similar to your recovery journey? My concern is that I am missing out on this window of opportunity to gain back size. I asked my Uro and he said that I didn’t have much scar tissue damage so it wasn’t critical that I needed to cycle aggressively to get my gains back straight away.

Right now, I am in my feels. I don’t want to cycle, I am feeling regret. I feel like I made the wrong decision and I just should have lived with ED. I can’t see the light at the end of the tunnel with my recovery. Can we fast forward 10 months and I can look back at this post and laugh it off.

Note: cycling in the shower or bath (for me) doesn’t help.

Note: my surgeon is top 3 in my country.

Any tips, tricks, stories of encouragement?

Sorry you're having the trouble with cycling. I've heard from others here that it can be that way. At 6 weeks, it seems a little strange to me that you're having that much pain. Is the pain from activating the pump (squeezing the bulb) or just from being erect?

I cycled up for the first time just 8 days after surgery in my surgeon's office. He had told me to keep trying to feel the deflate button each day and to tug down on the bulb in my sack every time I had to pee. My sack was definitely swollen, and he'd left me at about 70% inflated. In his office that day he first had me show him that I could find the deflate button and had me press it. The button was hard to activate but do-able, and I deflated. Then he had me inflate to the maximum I though I could. It was definitely painful, but again, it seemed like I could do it. I put a bunch of pumps in - the bulb was very stiff - and got back at least to where it had been - and stopped. He asked if I though it was at max and I said, probably pretty close. He shook his head, reached in and put another 10 or so hard squeezes in and I got much more erect, and then said "That's at max."

It was definitely painful. I yelped and almost hit the ceiling. I wondered if I'd be able to do it at home. But over time it got easier, and I've had mine for over 8 years now. Wish I'd gotten it sooner, and I love having it.

For me, there were two sources of pain, my sack and my shaft. The sack hurt for a while just because it was bruised and tender. Pinching the skin hard between fingers to activate the pump didn't help at all. I did find that it was easier in hot water, and I even bought a hot tub when I got home. The heat made the pump easier to depress. The scrotal pain only lasted a couple of weeks.

The second pain was from just being erect for a period. My dick wasn't used to being that stretched, and it took a while for it to get over the pain of being fully stretched out. Other men I've chatted with have said the same, and some took a few months to get used to it. For me, it was a shorter period. Each day I could stay inflated a little longer. After 8 months or so I decided to see how long I could leave it inflated. I got a little over 9 hours and decided that was enough testing, I clearly could leave it as long as I wanted. I did have "blue ball" aches, but that wasn't from the implant itself.

My urologist wanted me to inflate every day, at least 4 times each day, and leave it up for 20 minutes each time. That was hard at first, but became the norm fairly quickly. I gained back over an inch in length over the first year of doing that regimen.

Like you, I wondered if I'd done the right thing, but it all worked out well. I'm very happy with it now.

Ice helped relieve the swelling, but just sitting in a tub of hot water helped even more, though I'm not sure why. I started taking hot baths a couple times a day on day 3 after surgery. He'd used surgical glue to seal my incisions and gave me permission to start then, so if anyone else reads this, don't start that early unless your doc says it's ok. The hot water just released some of the tension and pain, and it's part of why I bought the hot tub.

So, it does get better, just takes time. I was so anxious to use it that I got frustrated at how long it took, but it wasn't really as long as it seemed. Still, keep in contact with your surgeon. He needs to hear from you about your progress, and if something isn't right he should know.

Good luck with it. Hopefully it won't be too long before it all feels normal.

Everybody’s pain threshold, especially for dick pain, is different. Have you tried any medications for the pain? Aspercreme (lidocine) applied to the shaft and glans before cycling really helped me. You you also try Tylenol or even Hydrocodone if it really is something you can’t stand.

At the beginning I was watching the clock and would deflate the moment I hit my target (15min in the beginning, the. 30, later 60), and yeah it hurt a lot. Sometimes I couldn’t quite make it, but I have a high pain tolerance and was as aggressive as I could stand.

I think ideally you should try for 15min at the max you can stand, twice a day. I think it’s better to hit the time target than a hardness target, so if you have to back it off a little to make the time that is preferable. It sucks but you have to keep doing it.

I had the same problem. i was told to inflate and leave it inflated for a half hour. When the truth is i could barely last 5 minutes. I probably didn't cycle as much as i should have but the pain was literally unbearable. And then i also had pelvic floor dysfunction. Every time i would have an orgasm i would have pain in my taint for like 4-6 hours. At your point i was regretting it as well. almost 2 years later its the best thing that has ever happened to me. Just pump as much as you can and don't push it at this point. Slower is always better. There are guys here that wanted to maximize girth and length so they would go ham on cycling. Me? I really didn't care as much.
The pain in the head of your penis i had as well. Eventually with all the stretching that will go away as well.

Sydsider, I’m with you brother! When I started cycling it hit like heck after 15 to 20 minutes of inflation.

I just kept doing what the doc said to do for cycling, his protocol was 20 minutes max inflation twice a day in the shower. Most times I couldn’t make it to 20 minutes without crying uncle.

I reached out to FrankTalk brothers too! Will this ever pass!

It took a good while for me, at least 5 months that I remember, but it does get better.

I was cleared for sex at 6 weeks but I waited till 8 weeks and it still hurt like heck when we had PIV sex, my dick throbbed with pain for two days afterwards. I emailed my doc because I thought I had broke something, he told me to just take it easy and take baby steps.

It will definitely get better, just keep cycling as much as you can.

I’ve had mine for almost 5 years now and I can go over 2 hours with very little discomfort at the end of those two hours.

Keep getting better brother,

Cycling hurt the first few months. Im 5 months out and generally pain free except when maxed out. Even then its not pain but more a discomfort. Youll build up to it. Time is your friend here. And i wouldnt stress about hitting max this early on. Youll have plenty of time. I got out post surgery at 6 inches. Now im back 7.25 inches long. Your only a couple years older than me and have a longer implant. Im sure youll be fine. Take some advil the first couple of weeks.

By the way i never did 1 hr inflations. Ive done 20 mins cycles multiple times a day.
