So…

Am I the only one excited about the Titan Prime? On paper, this thing sounds like an honest-to-goodness improvement on implant durability/longevity (BioFlex tubing). Not just that, but the implication that this will now incentivize competitors toward NextGen models also makes the future look much brighter. I ask this question because I don’t see much talk/excitement about the device around here.

Obviously, this doesn’t suggest an impervious implant—but certainly something MUCH better than current models.

For us here in the States, it’s only three months away from availability! Sorry to go on, but the prospect of a doubled (?) lifespan (assuming the mean for current implants really is anywhere from 4-6 years, according to failure reports) just makes me genuinely giddy

It’s not just you. Once my Titan needs revision, I will get the Prime unless initial experience from patients shows some issue. Just the stronger tubing alone could eliminate half of Titan failures. I don’t see it mentioned, but what I’d like to see also is extra tubing reinforcement (maybe an additional layer of Bioflex) at the pump junction, where most tubing failures occur. But maybe the tubes being wrapped in Bioflex just makes them so strong that’s unnecessary.

I’d also like to keep the Classic pump instead of the Touch pump. I think that is scheduled later, but not sure. I already have to wait until middle of next year for the Prime XL cylinders to be available. If my current Titan fails beforehand I’d have some tough choices to make.

What I’d like is a conversation between some of the brainer people on this board, where they might offer some speculations on increased lifespan.

I believe Dr. Hakky actually works with Coloplast. He’d probably have some general insight concerning this.

Coloplast states the new tubing is “11x” stronger, but that doesn’t tell us much. Is that tensile (stretch/pull) strength, shear (bending) strength, abrasion resistance? Number of bending cycles without breaking? All of the above? Something else? What’s the metric here?

Also 11x stronger is unlikely to equate to 11x more life. If a typical failure involves a force that exceeds the current tubing strength by 5x, it might equate to significant longer life. But what if the typical failure event is a tubing bend that exceeds the tube strength by 20x? In that case 11x stronger tubing will likely fail under the exact same load. We don’t really know.

I’m hopeful it will be far more durable, and I suspect it will be, but there’s a lot we won’t know and can’t know until there are a large number of the devices installed and in use by real-world patients.

As a prospetical implantee, I definitely share your enthusiasm in the Titan Prime.

As you said, longevity should drastically improve.

But as an observer trying to figure out what is life with an implant I would tremendously like to know if the time to action has been improved, be it for a smaller number of pumps, or a pump easier to find and to press.

This point is for me crucial as I project myself in a situation where using the implant should be as fluid and easy as possible.

To address your concerns on this post.. after initial break in and more so you getting used to using an implant… time to being ready has never been an issue. I’ve been reading here on FT for years and never heard anybody complain of it taking too long. It is however a normal concern as to how to inflate without being noticeable. Personally any time I’m going into a sex situation I generally pump several pumps which allows me and my wife to feel and see an engorged penis. Then it’s an easy 10 pumps or so to hard. This can be done while messing around or going down on her. Been using mine for over 4 years and once you’ve had it a while you never even consider this aspect of it.
