How long did your implant last? How many years? Let some of the veterans here share their thoughts.

Average seems 5-10 years. Some fail in 1-2 years, some in 15+. There doesn’t seem to be any easy way to predict for any individual patient.

I’ve had my AMS LGX for 5 years! Knocking on wood that it keeps on going.
One of the guys that I talked to before I got my implant that was a Boston Scientific patient champion had his for 15 years before it failed and he got a revision.

Lifespan is excellent.

ChatGPT:
A 2022 meta-analysis of 12 studies and 20,161 patients estimated inflatable penile implant survival at 87.2% at 5 years, 76.8% at 10 years, 63.7% at 15 years, and 52.9% at 20 years. A separate 20-year study found virtually the same result, with 53% survival at 20 years, and a newer analysis of 11,026 patients projected 48.4% survival at 20 years. So saying “roughly half of inflatable penile implants can still be functioning around 20 years later” is well supported and represents genuinely impressive longevity for a mechanical implant.

I am wondering about the conditions for an implant to survive for 20 years. Never use it?

Use does not seem correlated with failure. Some guys use it daily and last 15+ years, others barely touch it and it fails within a few years. Most mechanical devices deteriorate if not used, but so too wear is a thing. I stand by my previous statement, it’s just impossible to know how long any given implant will last, regardless of use.

I use my implant a LOT, usually at least twice a day. I didn’t buy it to not use it…that’s like buying a corvette to just polish it in the garage and take it to a car show once a year.

Haha! I lived a long time with a broken dick and a dead marriage. Both have been resolved and now I’m making up for lost time. If my implant fails it won’t be from lack of use.

So I can get the implant, and I might need to replace it every 5 years or even sooner in the worst-case scenario, and in the best-case scenario—which is rarer than what I’m seeing here—each implant could last 15+ years. The worst-case scenario, as you can imagine, costs much more, and it’s a very serious problem, since if there isn’t enough money for a replacement, things can’t get any worse.
