Regarding Implants

I'm considering implants as all other treatment options have failed. However, before making up my mind i want to clarify a few things.
- How much does the implant cost. I'm talking about implant only. Would appreciate if cost for AMS CX/ LGX and Titan could be mentioned
- Does surgery or re-surgery reduce the size
- Does the implant get inflated coincidently
- Does the implant get detected during scanning at airport. I think it should not as it doesn't contain any metal

You would be hard pressed to find just the cost of the Implant itself ... some places does the operation for about $12,000 cash (or financed). Most of us are covered by Insurance and the cost varies wildly ... my Insurance was billed $17,000, as I was an outpatient (3 hr. hospital stay). Some guys are "overnight" and the cost usually ranges from $40,000 - $50,000. I doubt there is much difference in the price of one model over the other ...
You usually do not lose size ... unless you have pre-existing conditions. This would include, Peyronies (fibrous scar tissue), tissue atrophy, etc.
The general "rule-of-thumb" is to pull your flaccid penis straight out, as far as possible ... now look down, that is about the length size you will get from an erect Implant.
Generally the Implant does not "auto-inflate" ... some guys have reported this, but I think some of these cases they are not fully deflated.
The Implant does not get detected by the wand scan ... it does show up in a full body scan. No big deal ...

This is news to me. I've been thru all the various kinds of airport scanners many times and never had even the slightest indication that my Coloplast Titan was detected. I did have a pelvic and abdominal CT scan (in a hospital) about a year ago and the implant components were all visible on that. I would assume the same will be true with MRI and perhaps even medical diagnostic X-ray.

Here's a link some comments about costs. Its a little dated. My Coloplast Titan in Feb 2012 cost $8,989 and the cost was included in the fee paid to the surgicenter.

The $40,000 - $50,000 is way high. It may show on a bill because the hospitals always bill very high numbers to an insurance company and then the insurance company or Medicare pays only a fraction of that and the hospital accepts that. My total cost paid by Medicare was about $13,500 and I stayed overnght which they called a 23 hour stay.
In my case the cost of the implant included an AMS technician being in the room with a big bag of parts so the doc had available anything he might need during the surgery. I think that is standard practice.
I have been through various airport scans including full body and have never been questioned about the implant. I guess if they do detect it they assume no one is going to implant a bomb in his dick

Hey DAve,
You are right on with that info. I went to the doctor today to discuss my up coming surgery. They keep you 23 hrs to keep the I.V.s in you longer with more antibotics, etc. While I was there he contacted the AMS representative to see what his schedule was. The doc said that the hospitals won't stock all the different sizes because of their expense, so the rep is there with the different sizes and/or parts as you say. I would hate to be on the OR table and they have to send out to Autozone for a valve or hose...LOL Now, tell me this. I am going to do the implant and I have never even tried injections, I have a pump that I found when my dad passed away, works okay but I hate that tight band around my penis and haven't used it other than to pump it up. I have a little trouble figuring out how that rubber ring can keep blood in and I am supposed to ejaculate with it on....Don't sound right to me. Viagra half way works, but I am thinking I will be as happy as a flea on Dolly Partons bush (my luck I would end up in Willie Nelsons beard) with the pump. Where in the hell is spell check....

When my injections failed to work I went to my uro doc intending to get a presription for a pump. But he told me they only enlarge the penis but do not give it enough rigidity for good sex. So he only uses them for guys that can't stand the implant surgery because of medical problems. I have no personal experience with a pump but I trusted him.
I believe the reason they stop the blood but not the ejaculation is that the blood vessels are near the outer part of the penis whereas the urethera is near the center so the ring can cut off the blood flow without choking the urethera.

My post above of $13,500 total cost was for an AMS 700 CX, including the device and all other costs. My doc said the device costs $10,000 but in looking at the bills medicare paid as best I could tell the device was less than that. I don't recall the number now but I think it was around $8000.
