penile implant's cylinder size

Hi all!

Is there anybody having an implant with two cylinders of different size? When its necessary, are surgeons doing that? Or are they always inserting two cylinders of the same size? :?:

In my opinion this is a very important topic, and throughout all of my investigations I never happened to encounter a case study demonstrating an example for that. On the other hand, I know an example for missing the ability and audacity to just do it, and this example has to suffer from a correction OP as a result of the flaw. :( He's got two cylinders of identical size, but need one a bit longer than the other.

So please if there's anybody who doesn't have two identical cylinders in himself, please shout out loud!! :!:

I've had two implants. Both were the AMS Ultrex, which is the predecessor to the AMS 700 LGX. The second one has failed, too, and will be replaced shortly. Responding to your question... in both of these implants the right side was about 1/8" shorter than the left. This wasn't enough to cause problems.

J,
Curious, will you stay with AMS? I suspect there has been some improvements since '99.

Yes, I'll be getting the AMS 700 LGX. I was supposed to have gotten it December 02, but surgery was cancelled 45 minutes after it was scheduled to begin because the AMS rep brought the wrong unit. As you might imagine, that was a real bad day for me.

Hello JerGeezer,
you're referring to the right side of your corpora? The cylinders they've inserted into them were equally sized, though?

Yes, the Ultrex used to be one of the elder device without the parylene coating in between the silicone layers. They wore out after some 3-4 years. Right now AMS devices can compete with the Mentor/Coloplast ones with respect to durability.

The right cylinder was the shorter one. I have no idea whether they were equally sized. Sorry

When you say "Cylinder" you mean corpora or cavernous body respectively. I use the term cylinder in order to denominate the implant's inflatable part being inserted into your corpora. The information regarding your implamt's sizing is inscribed in your implant's pass(port) they're handing to you when leaving the clinic.

What I'm trying to say is that the tip of the cylinder on the right side felt a little shorter (in the head) than the one on the left. I do not know why this is. I never heard of this "passport" business until coming to this board, so maybe that is something relatively new.

That might be a serious problem. Symmetry at the glans-end is quite crucial. When it came out shorter, that's because of its crural bottom lying a bit deeper, or say the proximal measurements of its cavernous body yielded more than of its neighbour.
It's like putting sticks into a whole: If one whole is deeper, but the sticks of equal size, they won't reach out equally high.
