Disappointed after meeting with the Doctor

I've written in a previous thread about myself and my erection problems. I am 40 years old and has suffered from venous leakage in my entire life. Have a about 60 % erection today.

Considered over the implant and met with my doctor today. He is a professor of urology.

The doctor was quite negative. He said that after the implant is no turning back and he had several patients who regrett it. He said that the penis was shorter after surgery and that it was only a 50 % erection after implantat regardning stiffness and angle. He further said that the risk of infection was 1 in 50. If I get a infection they had to remove the implant and could not put any new. During a 10 year period there were also assume that the mechanics broke down and then you had to do surgery again. Of course the choice was mine...

The doctor did what he believed in and for my advantage. He wanted me to try Viagra again with pubisring. He also wanted me to try injection. The latter I have never tried before.

Should add that in Sweden we do not have the same care as in the U.S. That is to say I can not seek out private hospital and undergoing surgery. Our health care is financed by taxes.

What do the rest of you about my meeting with the doctor?

I'm sorry for your frustration. I have obviously never me your doctor but it seems that his medical opinion is based largely on his own limitations and understanding about the procedure. I'm 38 years old. My doctor conducted several evaluations and in conjunction with me, his patient, we decided to move forward on an implant. Infection was not a concern at all with modern techniques (they still happen but with a rate in the US between 1-3%). If an infections does occur, they can re-implant but it takes time to prepare the penis. You may lose length, but my doctor said that I shouldn't based on a lack of other existing conditions such as a lack of blood flow and erections over a period of time or prostate problems. You may want to consider a second opinion. There are many videos and testimonials you will find that underscore implant as an effective remedy (some figures over 90%). He is right, once you go the implant route, you can not go back, but you will find many happy IPP recipients on this site. Also, their are some who regret their decision and you should hear both sides. Good luck on this journey.

I will share my personal Penile Implant experiences in the hope it will address some of your questions and concerns.
I was implanted with the Coloplast Titan in December 2007 after developing ED Post-Prostatectomy in February 2004.
The Implant completely corrected my ED and restored both my sex life and the emotional bond with my wife.
I would do it again in a heart-beat!!
Also, the Implant does not interfere with any of my daily physical activities, e.g., weight lifting, swimming, biking, etc.
Other than the fact that I can get a rock-hard erection 24/7 by simply squeezing the bulb of the pump in my scrotum,
I never notice the Implant since it has just become a part of my body.
In my opinion, REALLY AWESOME!!
Hope this helps,
Bob

I agree with Bob,,, if you have ED consistentely more then 30% everytime you have sex then I would really consider the implant. The implant has cured my ED I wish I would have had it done 15 years ago WHOW WHAT FUN I WOULD HAVE HAD BACK THEN :D

Thanks for your supportive answers!
I guess I was really made up my implants, but after seeing this doctor, I became discouraged. He along with a surgeon operated me in 1997 for my venous leakage and it was a successful surgery that improved my erection. However, the idea that he'll be part of my implant surgery scares me. The doctor seems the lack of knowledge on this. It feels as if we have stone age care in Sweden. Well the truth is that this is not such a common operation in Sweden as in US.

I agree with the above posts! infection rate 1-3% erection is rock hard in an instant. yes, a small amount of size is lost and it was due to my understanding that the head does not get engorged as before. there is no going back whcih is true but who would want to. when i was learning how to work my implant i walked around 80% erect for 3 weeks because i did not push the release button firmly enough. beofre the implant, i would have killed for 80% for 3 minutes. try and find a urologist that does at least 75 or more of these per year

Thanks for your response! To find a urologist / surgeon who makes so many surgeries I have to find my way outside Sweden and pay for it myself at a private clinic in another country. It's a ways to go... :)

I am glad I had a great doctor here in the states at Duke Hospital,in North Carolina. I am 14 days out of surgery and pleased so far with the results. It is too soon to tell but I had the coloplast Titian implanted,I gained in girth I know for sure and don't believe I lost any in length. I will know at my 6 weeks ckeck up which is Jan21. Infection rate with my doctor who does 125-150 a year was less than 1%.
