My name is Roger. I’m a 59 y.o. with Type II diabetes and ED. I was diagnosed with both about 10 years ago. I tried the usual medications – Viagara, Levitra & Cialis and they all worked for a while then stopped being effective. About 2 yrs. Ago I got a Pos-T-Vac vacuum pump and it really helped me to achieve a nice erection but even with a very tight constrictor band (cock ring), I couldn’t maintain the erection for more than a couple of minutes. I had to stop what I was doing and re-pump every few minutes. My girlfriend didn’t seem to mind but I knew things could be much better.
This past Thursday, March 13th, I had a Coloplast Titan installed at Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia. Dr. Bruce Garber was the surgeon & as far as I’m concerned he is top-notch. He did a super job! I live outside of Atlanta, GA so it was no short trip to Philadelphia but I decided after reading about implants and outcomes that I wanted a surgeon who does a lot of these operations & Dr. Garber has done in excess of 2,000 implant operations. He also developed a technique he uses to help make sure he puts the largest size implant in there to help preserve penis length and that was very important to me also. The staff at Hahnemann were all very friendly, professional & very competent as is Dr Garber’s staff.
I left the hospital after the operation with a urinary catheter and a drain tube. The drain tube was no problem & is probably the reason I never had any discoloration but the catheter was painful. It didn’t hurt as long as I was still but when I walked around every step caused the tube to rub against the inside wall of my urethra. That night I sat up in bed because I couldn’t roll on either side. I don’t think I slept a wink. The next morning, I went to Dr Garber’s office and he removed the catheter and the drain. I was so afraid the removal of the catheter was going to be excruciating but it hardly hurt at all.
I’m now 5 days post-op and have no swelling or discoloration and very little pain. I finished the last of my oral antibiotic (Bactrim) today. I think it’s the cause of a little stomach discomfort – nothing too bad. As far as pain – there hasn’t been much. I took a Percocet the night of the operation. I took nothing prior to seeing Dr Garber the next day because I hadn’t eaten and I wasn’t sure how much pain I would be in following the removal of the catheter and the drain. After I left Dr Garber’s office, I took 2 Tylenol Extra Strength caplets. I switched down to 1 Tylenol ES twice a day the following day & I’ve been at that level ever since. I take it as much for the anti-inflammatory benefits as the pain relief.
Dr Garber normally sees his post-op patients the day after surgery, 2 weeks post and 6 -8 weeks post. Because I live so far from Philadelphia, I don’t have to come up for the 2 week visit. I will call his office and presumably get instructions on inflating and deflating the cylinders. I will come back up 8 weeks post-op to meet with him and get permission to begin using this new device. I can’t wait.
I strongly recommend Dr Garber and his staff. His website is http://www.garber-online.com. I think he’s the best!
By the way, I learned a lot from the guys who’ve taken the time to relate their experiences here on franktalk.org and I look forward to being able to give-back. Thank you.
