I am one month post surgery with an AMS 700CX. I have two questions for those who have experience. First is that the frenulum area was extremely sensitive before the operation. Now it lacks feeling. Is this usual and does it get better with time? I am assuming that it is the result of nerve damage along the raphe at the site of the implant. Secondly, can anyone tell me if the pump will eventually descend some in the scrotum? Mine if pretty tight up against the base of my penis and is somewhat uncomfortable. I am hoping that it will descend naturally. Any advice from those more experienced will be appreciated.

I had some numbness and loss of sensitivity that went away and back to normal in time.

I had some numbness on the underside of my scrotum in a pattern that reflected the nerves that were "in the way" in the approach to my penis surgically. I told Dr. Kramer about it, he said it's not uncommon. It all went away and sensation returned to 100% normal but it took 3-4 months. Extremely pleased w/ my doc, nicest guy around and I feel one of the top anywhere.

+1 - Andrew Kramer is tops. I also had a little numbness, but it cleared up in several weeks, as Val has noted.

I met with my surgeon today and asked him about the sensitivity. His response was that a loss of sensitivity is fairly normal, but that it will resolve itself in time. He said that sensory nerves (as opposed to muscle control nerves) will regenerate slowly but that feeling will return.

He also said that the pump in my case is higher than optimal and that could be resolved with surgery to replace just the pump with longer tubing. We agreed that it does not seem necessary at this time and I will live with the pump as for the time being. If it is a long term problem he said that he would be willing to do the replacement in the future.

We also talked about my comment that I now seem to suffer from minor urine leakage. He pointed out that in the natural state the ureathra colllapses after urination and that helps to seal off the flow of urine. However, with the implant the ureathra is always stretched and there tends to be a small amount of urine in the urethra that will then leak out. He suggests spending an additional ten seconds, or so, and a few extra shakes to clear the final few drops. (I have found that a little toilet paper or a hankerchief helps to blot those last few drops.)

For any who are wondering whther to have the surgery, or not, all I can tell you is that I'm in my mid-seventies. I've suffered from ED for fifteen or twenty years. I now fervently wish that I had undertaken this surgery fifteen years ago. And for those in the mid-Atlantic region, Dr. Andrew Kramer in Baltimore is highly recommended.

I did a little additional research on the question of nerve regeneration. The attached study says that nerve regeneration can happen at a rate of up to one inch per month. Based on the scrotal aarea of most surgeries the nerve recovery time should be in the range of a few months. I'm hopint that is the case. http://nerve.wustl.edu/NerveInjury.pdf

Geezer6,

I have the same problem with the urination. I shake a little longer, it seems to help. I have some nerve problems also, I have tingling in both thighs. My left leg has stopped but I still have it in the right thigh. It's from surgery in the pelvic area, it is suppose to clear up with time. I am 7 weeks post op, the only pain I have is when I pump up and the nerve pain in the right tight that comes and goes.
