That happened with me in 1999 and the doc replaced the reservoir with a larger one.

My bulb collapses if I squeeze too hard and takes several seconds to recover, so I inflate by using lots of "small" squeezes instead of just a few "deep" squeezes. I've never run out of fluid altogether, though. Have you tried inflating using lower amplitude/higher frequency squeezes?
