Surgery prep

So my surgery is this week and I haven't been told what to do to prep, other than not eat or drink after midnight. Shave, betadine bath, etc. Do I just show up hungry and thirsty and that's it?

You were told the same thing I have been told. Mine is in 4 weeks.

I'm thinking all the prep, like showering and stuff is done there. But I'm definitely gonna shave on my own beforehand. Anything I'd had to have something done where I needed to shave and they did it, I ended up with horrible, itchy, razor burn and bumps due to their dry shave using a cheap razor. Not playing that game again.

MUNKY_BUTTR,
I was told not to shave myself because you can cut yourself and get an infection. They will not perform the surgery if you have an infection. They want to shave you in a sterile enviroment to ensure their are no infections. I was told to take my medication with a sip of water. Shower with the solution they gave me 2 times (the night before and the morning of the surgery). Do not eat anything after midnight. You do not want to have your surgery put off for doing something crazy. LOL! I used my VED the morning of the surgery. The worst part of the surgery is the healing, if you heal well everything will go smooth. I am enjoying my AMS LGX 700. I will be 9 weeks post op Monday. Good luck!

In addition to the steps listed above, my doc told me to discontinue all blood thinners one week before the surgery. These include aspirin, fish oil, gingko biloba, nattokinase, and vitamin E. If you are on coumadin for serious heart issues, you should discuss this with both your urologist and whoever put you on the coumadin before discontinuing. My doc told me one patient he did had a serious bleeding problem during surgery due to the patient using baby aspirin as a blood thinner. My GP doc, who is an expert on vitamins and supplements, told me to discontinue all vitamins and supplements a day or two before the surgery because there is no testing of how they might interact with the anesthesia, so safest to get them out of the picture.

As far as shaving goes they will shave you, if necessary. Hair gets in the way and it's got bacteria. You will look like a kid again.

I'm really nervous about letting them shave me. They always do a horrible job and I end up itchy with razor bumps. But I did read about discontinuing use of medications and stuff. Just a little surprised they didn't give me anything to scrub down with.
