Waiting for an implant

Postby dw_william » Sun Dec 28, 2014 5:03 pm

Hi there,

I have been dealing with ED for awhile.

I tried many things. I've gotten in great shape which helps but only so much. I've tried medications which are effective but invariably make me unbearably sick.

I tried injections which work very well, but the last time I injected, about a year ago, I noticed a large lump near the tip of my penis after I injected. As a matter of fact, that lump always appeared after I injected, but the last time it was unusually large. Then I had pain in my scrotum and my shaft for several months but those symptoms subsided. The evidence of the lump is still there but it is now very small and there is no bending of the shaft. However, that was my last time injecting. I'm pretty sure if I continued (I only used it carefully once every two weeks) I would end up with Pyronie's disease or other symptoms.

Anyway, I'm now considering an implant. I'm considering waiting. I can live without sex for a while I focus on my career (I''m in my late 30s). Do you think the quality of implants will improve greatly in the next say, 5 years, so much so that it is worth waiting?

Thanks!

The problem with waiting for the new model of anything is that you will never have the latest. Sometimes you just need to close your eyes and jump. The current AMS and Coloplast implants are excellent and should serve you well for many years. At your age you may have to get a replacement at some point, but that's not easy to predict. I always advise guys who need an implant to get it sooner than later. The passage of time does not make ED better, and you're missing a lot of intimacy in the meanwhile.

Don't delay- due it today
I procrastinated for three years before deciding on getting it. After having it now for almost 9 months
all I can say is that I regret the time lost.

You have everything to gain and nothing to lose

I recommend waiting for the sake of figuring out the best surgeon for your particular issue.
I don't recommend waiting for a better implant. Consider this:
You're still young and so by nature frequently horny. What you'll get is a virgin implant op. A virgin implant succeeds in > 90% if the surgeon is a good one. So the chance is tremendously high you'll envision an amazingly satisfying rich sexual life.
You can deal with about 20 years lifetime of your implant, maybe more. In 20 years you're gonna get a revision. If education and research won't be neglected too much which is unlikely, you'll encounter lots of excellent surgeons in the field and still more robust implant models in the future. So 1 revision will suffice in order to provide you till end of your life.
This perspective is not guaranteed, but it's the most likely one. So go ahead, let it implant and enjoy!

Yank is correct. I put off the decision for over 5 years, and by the time I had healed from the surgery it was too late. My wife had lost interest in sex during the years of fumbling around with ED, and I had a stroke that, among other things, took away my libido. If I'd gotten it when I needed it we could have had several more years of intimacy. As it turned out, we have never used the implant. Don't delay - nothing good happens while you wait.

Would you hold off on buying a computer for 5 years because they will definitely be improved? The issue is that statement will always be true to a degree, that is that technology will be better in 5 years.

You are young, on average that yields a better result statistically. You will have to have a couple of revisions done eventually...part of this. The data on the implants is great right now. They are really good devices, honestly, especially compared to other prosthetics. Shockingly so actually!

What if someone comes along in the next year and you aren't able to have sex? Honest question there. None of us can predict what life will or won't bring, but we can do our best to be prepared for eventualities. I just don't see how waiting is going to benefit you here, other than to lock you into a course of action that will be difficult to deviate from.

Just my opinion though.

Thanks for all the input.

The thing that scares me (among other things) is the loss of size. When my member is at full staff it is nearly 7 inches. My erections were that long when I was young and in college and they are about that way now when I take Viagra and with the injections.

Otherwise, my erections these days are about 5.5-6 inches right before I ejaculate (I am typically hard only at the end). I did the "stretch" test and I'm about at 5.5 inches.

Perhaps this is an issue that will be resolved with implants in the near future as it seems to concern and affect so many?

Plenty of guys express concern about this, but the real question is whether you'd rather have a shorter penis that works or a longer one that doesn't. And the probability of loss isn't high unless you have an inexperienced surgeon and/or preexisting conditions like prostate surgery or scarring or some anatomical anomaly. Maximize the probability of a positive outcome by finding the best surgeon you can, even if it means traveling.

You might have gotten some fibrosis around your corpora as well as tunica due to the injections. The more you inject, the more fibrotic gets your spongy tissue. One more good reason for switching to an implant ASAP!!
Didn't your urologist tell about the drawbacks of injecting?

Go get an implant by an excellent surgeon, that guarantees for maximum length. Maximum means as much as possible without buckling which is the result of too much.
After 15-20 years of rich sexual life with your implant your corpora's size will still extend such you might get a larger implant on 1. revision. Given the implant won't last life long without any defect… ;-)
