As someone waiting for surgery-(Hopefully Jan 16th) I was hoping to create a thread where those further along in the journey might provide pre and post surgery tips, things you've learned, and/or things you wish you knew before and after surgery.

I'm scheduled for mine on the 19th. Had the pre admission physical yesterday. It consisted of what seemed like a thousand questions. Not nervous.....yet

I was implanted 4/3/14 with amazing results, hope you have the same. It's great having a new life or my old one re-stored.

Anyway one tip I have for you is to take warm baths for a few days after the procedure, that and use ice whenever you can

Read my Journey, I've posted post op pictures, and the healing period. But remember, we're all different. My advice is to take it easy the first two weeks, in bed, no lifting, ice packs. (Ask the nurse for some ice packs to take home, frozen peas are for dinner). Welcome to the brotherhood and PM me and I'll give you my phone number if you have questions.

Yankfan, no offense, but that is bad advice. Don't bath, only shower until your Dr says your incision is healed. INFECTION is not what you want. Been there, done that!

Technique matters too. Incision sealing can be accomplished with various sutures to achieve primary closure, or surgical glue as well. In both cases the post-op instructions from the doctor are what matter.

Please follow the advice of the doctor that did your surgery. There are nuances and differences that sometimes require different post-op care from one person to the other. The doctor that did the surgery is the best qualified to determine those instructions and home care. If you trusted them to do what they did to your penis, trust their post-op instructions. If you have a question, ask it, but please follow their advice until told to do otherwise.

Sometimes looking at the board we see all these different post-op instructions and it is VERY important to remember that one's case is theirs alone.

I was personally told to bathe starting on day 3 with a hibiclens bath. No issues at all, with two baths a day. But that's me and my case.

Besides the value of both ice and heat, any other practical suggestions?

Take the hospital urinal home with you - you may find it easier than using the toilet for the first day or two. And follow your doctor's instructions - don't try to move ahead before you're ready (baths, pumping, etc.).

Thanks. I love souvenirs! The urinal is a good one. I'm taking it home. If all goes according to plan, only 8 days until surgery. After 4 long years I can't wait to get back what cancer and surgery took away.

Amen to that urinal advice. It would've been extremely hard trying to go through that process with a hard on. You gotta back up, move forward, etc. Too much work
