How do you get home?

Postby DonBecker54 » Mon Jul 06, 2015 2:04 pm

I know this sounds dumb, but if you're having surgery in a city near you (couple of hours), is there a service to get you home? I'm new to my area, now divorced, and don't know anyone well enough to ask them to drive me 100 miles each way and then wait.

Is there a transport service covered by insurance?

I'd hate to sit in a motel for a week when my home is 1.5 hours away.

If you have a church, check with the men's group, especially someone retired.
If you don't have a church, call a larger church, find out if they have a men's group or have some retired men who do errands, etc.
Good way to get some help and maybe make some new good friends at the same time.

You don't have to explain everything but say you are going to have an outpatient procedure and could anyone drive you to and from the hospital.

There are ambulance services, but they cost and I doubt that your insurance would pay, although I guess it wouldn't hurt to ask.

One more idea: what city are you having your surgery. Maybe there is someone here on FT that lives there who could be your chauffeur.

The doctor I"m trying to book is in Nashville. I live about an hour and a half south in Alabama.

Maybe I can look for someone on Craigslist who wants to make a couple of hundred bucks plus gas.
