Exercising

Hi all -
I am considering an implant and wanted to ask a question. I love hiking and I like to outdoor activities for long periods of time such as hiking in the mountains, etc.
I love backcountry snowboarding which essentially involves hiking up mountains on a pair of snowshoes and then, when you get to the top, riding down.
I also enjoy running and doing weights to stay in shape.
I care about my body and eat healthy and am not overweight.
From your experiences does exercise have a negative impact on an implant? Love to hear from people who have had one for a while.
Ps - I'm single and 29
Thanks all

An implant will not affect your physical activity in any way (after you're healed, of course). Slipping off your bike seat onto the top bar wouldn't be very pleasant, but that's not very pleasant without an implant.

My surgeon told me that I should be able to go on with my activities as usual after the surgery, the implant should not restrict you in doing anything

3 months out and I usually forget I have it outside the bedroom!
Starting to bike again this weekend and will see how that goes.

As long as you don't resumed exercising too soon you should be fine. Taking care of your body by exercising is the best medicine for all around good health.

I agree with the rest, there shouldn't be anything that you couldn't do. You might want to consider wearing a cup for any sport or activity that might involve body contact or contact with an object (eg hockey stick, puck, tennis ball, baseball etc), but then you would want to take precautions even without an implant. You mentioned weightlifting. I don't know the answer to this but it might be worth checking with a surgeon. If you have a traditional reservoir placement, the surgeon must create what amounts to a hernia in order to access the space. I do know that you are told not to engage in any heavy lifting for a varying length of time (depends on which doc you have) after the procedure. After that I don't know what advice the docs give, but it might be something to consider. Perhaps another poster with an implant and is also a weightlifter might join in here.

Did around 10 miles on my standard pre implant bike saddle yesterday. Used my hybrid and rode a relatively flat rail trail not paved so bumpy at times. Have padded bike shorts I always use and no more sore than I ever am after first ride of season.
Dr Kramer I believe said 4-6 weeks before any lifting and I followed that and then some. As others have said your doc will know your particular surgery and can answer questions about how much and when. Good luck.
