implant

Postby guy123 » Tue Sep 29, 2015 10:02 pm

Hi Everyone, i've been thinking about implant for years . I actually backed out twice the day before surgery. I am 44 years old and have been diabectic for 25yrs. How long does implant last and how may would i need over the years if i live a normal life span.

Nobody can say for certain. In 2008 Dr Kramer told me my Titan should last 15 years or more, but AMS and Coloplast both make continuous improvements, so more recent models may provide more longevity.

DG_moore is right, nobody can really say, but based on a projected 10 to 15 year implant life and assuming you live until your mid 80's I would expect you might need three of four implants in your lifetime. But then again, as DG said, improvements in design etc might create a longer lasting prosthesis in the next 20 years. Maybe after 30 years there will be a cure for ED and there will be no need for a prosthesis at all!!

The next time you get to the day before surgery, gather up your courage and march yourself right up to the hospital doors. While there is certainly some discomfort, it just isn't that bad for most folks and the benefits are well worth it.

Like Watsup said, go ahead and get the implant. I have recounted my story here several times, and serve as a living example of why you shouldn't continue to put it off. Adverse things can happen while you're procrastinating and you might not achieve the result you had been hoping for. If you need the implant you should get it sooner than later. Time is not your friend here.

When I got my titan last year my doc told me it had a lifetime guarantee. Being 70 at the time may contribute to the lifetime guarantee.
Implanted with colorplast Titan 3 years ago. Davinci radical prostatectomy 6 months ago. Very happy with the outcome of both procedures.

A lifetime guarantee means the lifetime of the Implant. If it fails and needs to be replaced the manufacturing company will replace it for free, but all other costs are either the insurance company or yours.
I'm 75 and got an AMS Ultrex in 1995. Had it replaced in 1999. Got a new AMS 700 LGX in 2013.

I am 57 and expect if I live long enough to wear out one I may one other. Several here have said the replacement surgery was MUCH easier than the initial one so that may be a plus. Several docs told me the 3 piece has a much longer lifespan than a 2 piece, one even went as far to say that with a 2 piece I would have to get a new one every 4 or 5 years and could expect to have 4 or more in my lifetime. Who want so spend 3 months healing every 4 years? Do the math. If you are 44, then need a new one in 10 years you would be 54. Need another in 15 and possibly longer with improvements, then you are near 70 years old. Unless you are planning on banging white haired old ladies into your 90's you would not need but 3 total. If you are 44 and need a new one every 15 years then that would put you at 89 years old before you would be cruising the market for a 4th. d
LGX 21cm .Milam 01/13/16. Horror; both service and surgical outcome. hated infrapubic installation. Kramer revision 03/01/17. 22cm Titan +1.5cm extender. Those who think their opinion is the only one that matters are a danger to themselves and others.

I should have mentioned yesterday that my first implant lasted about three and a half years, while the second lasted fourteen years. The first replacement was a piece of cake, while the second replacement was more like getting it for the first time. I got the AMS 700 LGX each time, although the first two went by a different name. If I live long enough that this one needs to be replaced, yes, I'll do it again. Go for it.
