New and scared

I was operated on in April 15th 2011 by Robotic surgery. I was cleared by a 0.0 psa on May 26th 2011. I was given a prescription for both Cialis and Viagra. I have been taking the Cialas since May 26, every other day. I only have taken the Viagra one time. I am sorry to say that the results are not good. I found Franktalk through researching on Yahoo and became a member to learn and hopefully gain friends and knowledge. By my early reading I see that I might be in for a long hard road to regaining if ever my being able to perform the way I used to. I am 57 years old, also found out with the prostate cancer that I am a type 2 diabetic. My wife says she understands and is willing to endure what we both will be going through, but I also know she enjoys sex just as much as I do, or did. Well I am going to cut this first message short, just a little bit to get my foot in the door so to speak. I will follow up with the complete story at a later time. I will say I am looking forward to learning as much as possible from You who have been through this for a while.

HarlyJoe,
Welcome to FrankTalk. My name is Dave and I’ve been a member here since October 2010. During this time I have been overwhelmed with support from strangers that I did not know existed. The guys here are truly exceptional people who go out of their way to be available for one another and help in every way they can. There are many men here that are also prostate cancer survivors and are more than willing to answer any question you may have.
This time in your life may seem daunting right now but you will discover new friends and develop deep relationships with others who are experiencing the same thing as you. You have come to the right place to find help with understanding your current situation.
All your questions may already be talked about in the discussion forums, if not; surely they have been in the chat room; which is a hot-bed of characters you will no doubt become very attached to. So, don’t be shy, come join the on-going ruckus in the chat room. It’s a safe place.
Dave

Hi Joe,
Congratulations on a successful outcome to your surgery. Continue to get those check-ups and PSA tests on schedule and keep that nasty cancer in the past.
Now on to the next challenge. You've come to the right place for information and support. Getting hard is part of what it means to be a man, and all of us are committed to finding the specific solution that works for us. While there are a whole bunch of PCa survivors on this site, others have diabetes, and still others have various other issues that have left us limp. Whatever the cause, limp is limp and it is not acceptable. For starters, I would suggest that you read the various discussions that have taken place on the forums. You'll be astonished by what you learn there. And Dave is right: the Chat Room is great. Look forward to seeing you there.

Welcome to the clan. This is a good place and the support and information here will put most med centers to shame. I'm also a PCa victim with robotic surgery. Being Frank- penile rehab takes time. If you were getting nice full erections within 60 days of surgery you should be studied and published- and they should probably take pictures!! Taking the pills will help awaken the nerves that were messed up during the surgery and hopefully begin to re-orient them to their duty. I also suggest you begin to pump. Only 60 days out try the Prelude; it is listed in the pumping section. It is not expensive. It's function is to return blood to the shaft and help prevent further damage or additional loss of length. The prelude is not for sex but is really fun to use and will help you. I really liked it and you can see yourself grow thru the clear cylinder. I nice point of encouragement. Then at some point, if you like the pumping activity you can move on to a vac pump of some type. I suggest that you find an inexpensive one to try before you invest in a medical pump as they are very expensive. If the Foundation can raise the necessary monies it will open a Marketplace where we can buy pumps and all kinds of assists and fun things with some privacy and understanding. That should be coming within, hopefully a couple of months.
Sounds like you have your sex drive back and that is good. Exercise him as much as possible. Before surgery I would have never believed that one could reach a climax without being hard. It works and is a great release. Also, it helps the boys and all begin to awaken and perhaps become more interested in their life before. It is wonderful that you wife in really interested in your rehab and getting back to the routine. I've concluded that penile rehab is a team sport that requires patience, humor and a sense of adventure. Go for it!!
My best and ask questions and enjoy the fellowship.
Regards,
Dick

Hi Joe, I to am a PCa guy but mine was open surgery. Like you 2.5 years out and PSA still zero. Yahoo for that. ED still a problem. If you are already getting a responce your in great shape. I know it is frustrating at time. I do know of guys that have made a complete recovery starting with the pump then pills. Unfortunately for me I am still chemically dependent for real sex. We were actually in the chat room last night and some of the guys wanted to know if we had met you yet. Don't be a stranger.
Best of luck with recovery.

Joe:
I'm glad you're here. You will not regret it! Fortunately, I am not a cancer survivor, or patient for that matter. However, I had erectile problems from my teen years. I recently became bionic, and I'm loving it. My path is a piece of cake compared to what you guys who have fought the big C have gone thru or have to go thru. One thing you will find here is a genuine sense of brotherhood. We all understand and we joke, tease, wise crack, and do anything else possible to lift each other's spirits. I've not met 1 of these guys in person, yet I feel like I'm with old friends every time I come on. We will support you, and please, don't ever think there is something too personal to ask, that is not possible here.
WELCOME!!
Dave

Hi Harleyjoe,
Your surgery wasn't that long ago. Lot's of guys go back to natural erections. Don't stress. Give it time. And good luck!

Hello,
Please keep in mind the usefulness of good Kegel muscles. They control bladder and have good effects on sex for both sexes. Results take over 8 weeks to show and I am over 6 years from surgery but still do them at 66.
Just Google them and find a routine you both like. We found we liked doing them together after a bath and during some special mutual skin care. In fact a little mutual masterbation might be in order from time to time. Makes exercise fun again.

Hi Harley Joe,
I am the same age as you are well 52 will turn 53 this year. I you suggest that you try a vaccum system and some rings. Try one ring at first and if that does not work use 2 rings. I use the vaccum system perscribed by my urologist but you can buy them alot cheaper in a store. The sales rep for the pump showed me how to use it and it is very simple. Pump unit 5 times then count to ten 5 more and so on till you reach desired length. Be sure before you pump that you have the rings lubricated and around the end of the pump. When you reach your length slip rings onto your shaft then release air out of pump. Hope this works for you. Bill
