AMS MS
AMS MS
I am really having a hard time pumping the AMS ms device I had implanted six weeks ago. I went for my first pump up at the doctor's office on Friday and the PA also had a hard time but did manage after a lot of effort on his part and a lot of pain on mine to get it inflated, not a 100% but enough to show it does work. Any advice on holding positioning, etc to get this pump easier to inflate the device. Thanks in advance
Re: AMS MS
I have had my LGX for 7 months now. Yours is a pretty typical experience. The pump bulb is very hard and the cylinders are new and maybe a little stiff, you are still healing and everything is stll pretty sore. If it still hurts that much give it more time (only do as much as you are comfortable with was the advice from my doc). I didn't start regular cycling until almost 10 weeks. Everyone says it gets easier to pump as time goes by and you want to say yeah sure! But it really does. There is a current thread on how long it takes it pump up the implant and the vast number of responders say it takes them about 30 seconds. And I agree.
I am right handed but I find it easier to hold the pump and tubing at the top steady with my right hand and pump the bulb with my left. You need a lot of force and it does hurt the scrotum skin. Start with a few pumps and add another every day or so if possible. You may only be able to manage 2 or 3 pumps to start. There is no hurry. You probably have found out that the bulb is slippery and can shoot out from between your thumb and fingers at high speed so you need a good grip and a good way to contain that sucker. I curl my index finger up and support the underside of the bulb on the flattish surface on the side of that finger and squeeze with the tip part of my thumb on the top side of the bulb. I use the end part of the bulb as it seems softer than the part near the rectangular pump body.
If I want a stiffer penis I can pump extra by using two hands. I use the same parts of my right hand, with the curled index finger on the outside of my left for extra support and my right thumb on top of my left thumb. I can then use both hands, mostly my two thumbs, to apply extra pressure to the bulb. A word of caution though, if you do not have the pump well trapped it can shoot out of your grasp VERY fast .
In the end you will find what works for you. Experiment, be kind to your equipment and just know that, with patience and practice it WILL get a lot better.

Re: AMS MS
Thanks for the reply as well as the advice. I thought something was wrong with either me or the device from reading on the forum about folks who start pumping after only a few weeks. Your advice about doing what's comfortable for me was something I had forgotten when reading from folks who it seems have no problems at all. I am still sore and still healing and it was great to be reminded of that. Thanks again
Re: AMS MS
I found that even after a week it is much easier to pump. I think the pump bulb gets easier to work and certainly you get better and more comfortable with what you are doing. And, of course, the area gets less sensitive post surgery.
Good luck!

Re: AMS MS
I agree with scooter65. Over time the pump bulb does indeed get easier to work, meaning to inflate and to deflate.

Re: AMS MS
This is from on of my prior post.............
Dr. Dineen in his paper describing the VED Protocol, he stated he starts his patients inflating at 9 to 12 days after the op. However other papers found most patients were not comfortable (read painful ) inflated that soon. One paper said the average person started the inflation per the VED Protocol Therapy was 43 days.
I started the VED Protocol weeks before my IPP. I believe this conditioned me to post-op inflation. Dr. Cornell activated me at 33 days, was able to pump to the max two days later and have been going for a total of 60 minutes every since. This means I may do 30 in the morning and 30 at night, do to time constraints. Friday it will be nine weeks since my IPP op and somewhere around week 7 to 8 weeks it becomes less painful to pump to the max, i.e. the pump is flat. Since you are breaking the scar tissue you will have some discomfort for brief periods of time. You can always push the deflate button if it is too painful.
-----------------------------------------
I am now 17 weeks post-op. The pump will get easier to use the more your inflate it. I too use a curled indexed finger and push my thumb against it. Am right handed, pump with my right and deflate with my left. At about 10 weeks I started pumping with my left hand, come to find out the pump rubber had not been soften for that position. So I had to work on pumping with my left to soften up the rubber.
Good luck, welcome to the brotherhood.

Re: AMS MS
I remember reading about people saying how easy it was after so many months. It's effortless. Early on (first 7 weeks) I thought not a chance and I was just gonna be the exception to the rule. That puppy will soften up one and you'll barely remember the early struggles. Too early for you

Re: AMS MS
I would echo the reassuring words others have said. It gets much easier with time and not a worrisome uncomfortable process. I was a weird fast healer. The doc that did my official first inflate at 6 weeks said he hadn't seen many that would let him inflate without pirouetting on tip toes like a ballerina due to tenderness. Even though mine was not really sore earlier on it was very hard and I rocketed the bulb up into the top of my scrotum on more than one occasion until I figured out the support of the bulb with one finger or hand while pumping with other fingers. I didn't learn the two handed pump described until later when my right hand got sore from pumping twice a day as instructed early on. Two hands helped but now soft enough that first pumps easy with even one hand. I also found a hot bath or going in our hot tub once really healed that it seemed easier to move pump around and pump. It will get a lot easier! Congrats on getting through the immediate post op time>

Re: AMS MS
I am 4 weeks post-op and was struggling with the pump for the last week since I started cycling. I went in yesterday (moved my 6 week appointment up) and the PA showed me the "curl index finger around the pump and use thumb" method as some have already mentioned in this thread. Worked much better than the middle and index fingers to support I had been doing. Tried it this morning and I got the 'pop' feeling you want and pumping was easier with less risk of the pump shooting off at high velocity in the scrotum. Deflating has not been an issue at all except the ` 1/4" button and pressure required can cause some pain to the scrotal wall. I figure in a month or so it will be as effortless and painless as can be expected.

Re: AMS MS
It took me 19 days of cycling before I noticed the pump got softer. I didn't cycle every single day either over those 19 days. But the days I did, it I did it twice a day, so we'll call it an even 19 days. Count backwards Use that as a benchmark. I have the exact same pump. It didn't gradually get there. It was the same firmness, then BOOM, on that 19th day of cycling it just happened.
You're discouraged because it isn't changing. We want to see a LITTLE progress and we don't. Don't sweat it. Literally Day 18 was equally as challenging for me as Day 1. Not a bit of difference other than I had less scrotal irritation. Keep that in mind and quit thinking about it. It's coming
