That thing doubles??!" and uninformed show-ers can think when they see a small penis in the locker room "Wow! That's as big as it gets."
Before my prostatectomy I was a grower, more than doubling when going from soft to hard. With my implant I am a show-er, about the same size when soft as when hard (and I've talked to some other implantees who have told me the same thing is true for them). Very nice side effect for locker rooms!
Although I had heard people using the terms growers and showers, I really did not think about the concept too much. I assumed that most people were like me, somewhere in the middle. Well, Dr. Kramer identified me as a grower in his commentary on the video of my implant surgery. During my follow up appointment with Dr. Kramer, I mentioned the comment. He responded that I should take his word for it. He has seen thousands of penises and I definitely am a grower. Now that I have a flaccid penis that is about twice as long as my preoperative flaccid penis, I finally understand the concept.
As nice as it may be to be a shower in the locker room, there is a downside to being a shower. It is taking me some time to get used to having a penis in my pants that is twice the size I have been accustomed to since puberty. I had both incontinence and ED. During the eight week period between my implant surgery and sling surgery to ameliorate incontinence, I still was wearing the Depends Guards that I had been wearing since my radical prostatectomy. The Guards worked well when my flaccid penis was smaller and more compact. After the implant surgery my new shower penis and the Guards did not work well together; there was a gap on the sides and some urine would leak out. Now that I have had the sling surgery and my incontinence largely is under control, I only wear a very thing pad and the shower penis is not a problem.
When I start riding my bicycle again, I will be curious to see if anyone notices the larger bulge in my lycra cycling shorts. I tried a pair on the other day to see how things looked. I definitely could notice a difference. Some of the guys with whom I often ride on weekends know about my implant surgery and will not hold back if they notice something. I think that they will be jealous.
