TSA pat down
TSA pat down
Just went through security at Boston's Logan Airport. Although I have flown post implant surgery, this was the first time I did not have a TSA-pre boarding pass. When I emerged from the scanner, the female TSA agent said to me: "A male agent will need to pat you down." She then spoke to a young make agent. I heard her say: "Looks like a penile prosthesis." The guy approached me with a look of fear in his eyes. He just barely patted me down. Maybe he thought that the thing was going to attack him. Anyone else have any TSA stories?

The TSA people were being much more hyper tonight than I have seen them in a long time. Multiple bags were being pulled off the X-Ray scanners and given further testing. About every third person was being given a pat down. So that may explain why I was pulled for a pat down.

I fly out of Logan and no issues last time but there may be something going on.I am always glad when they step it up a notch. Flying next week so may plan to be patted.

Re: TSA pat down
I'm flying in a month from O'hare Airport in Chicago. Dumb question: Are you supposed to show someone the I.D. Card that has the urologist gave me that shows that I had a penile implant (I think it is supposed to be used for an MRI) or do I just go through and only show it if I get called out? Or do I show it at all?
Re: TSA pat down
Last time I flew to/from O"Hare the TSA didn't give me a second glance. Just shoved me and my wife through with the rest of the herd.

My card was in my wallet, which was in my coat on the X-ray belt. Based on what I had read in older posts, I did not think that the implant would cause any issues. I was not asked any questions during my pat down and I did not volunteer any information. Given that most people with implants seem to get through security without a pat down, I would just go through without saying anything or presenting the card. My guess is that if the TSA agent is concerned after a pat down, the card might help, but the agent also might want some other verification (like a strip search). I would not think about this too much. Before I flew the first time I searched both FT and the web generally. I could not find any real horror stories about the TSA and implants.

Re: TSA pat down
Two days after implant I flew back home out of LaGuardia. No pat down problems however the catheter bag half full of urine was detected. I was politely escorted to a private area where I simply explained I had recent surgery. I lifter my pant leg and that was enough for TSA rep. No other questions asked and I was on my way. Have flown many times and the implant was never questioned. Not sure if they can see it or not.
