Next to some of the initial posts there is a circle, some are red some are not. Some appear to be scrolling and some are not. Can someone fill me in on that please, I don't get the meaning?

I see what you mean on the implant page with the list of threads to the left of each thread topic. I have no idea. It scrolls on some I've read, some I've not, some that have had replies, not on some that have had no replies, Maybe most active threads? some are red some not.
