I am scheduled fo the semi-rigid implant on 9/2/11
There are a whole host of reasons why my doctor and my wife along with me ended up with this type of implant.
I have several real questions that someone who has one can answer.
If you have this type of implant please message me so we can exchange some information.
Thank you so very much!

Re: SEMI-RIGID IMPLANT QUESTIONS
Hi Hokey, scuse for my language, i'm european.
in Europe malleable implant is more used than in U.S. I have known several men with this implant.
This is what I know: certainly the hydraulic implant is much more natural because it has more girth when erect, more firm and you will not have to "incline the prosthesis in the correct position for penetration.
I believe that the most important thing is : your latent erection after surgery ( spontaneous / residual erection).
I know some young men with malleable implant and they report me that have preserved most of their latent erection even after surgery. consequently, during sex, with excitement, they develop a good GIRTH "around the rod".
They told me that with small doses of Viagra and with good stimulation, they have the same girth and length as before surgery.
But i think not one can "predict" if you will have a sufficient spontaneous erection after surgery to develop good girth .
If your erection is nonexistent or poor, your penis will thinner certainly than your normal erection (and shorter).
But all the men I have known have told me that the penis is "always" hard enough to penetrate and alwais "ready" !
this is report of man with semirigid implant. he answered my questions. I hope I helped a little :
It's unusual to see doctors do malleable implants these days. However I did receive a malleable implant a couple months ago. I was supposed to get a inflatable type, but the malleable was used until another problem was corrected. So if any of you have specific questions about it, I'll be happy to respond. Essentially, I have a permanent erection that is bendable (think "Gumby"). One comment I should make is that the implant wasn't particularly comfortable and not very flexible initially. So it's not very easy to conceal under pants. As time goes on, it does become more bendable and you get used to the idea of having an erection all the time.
My doctor plans on replacing the malleable implant with an inflatable one in a couple months since it does afford more expandability in length and girth. With the malleable implant what you have is what you get. I don't have any comment on the use of ED medication (viagra, cialis, levitra) with the malleable implant as yet. I will report later on that when I get the opportunity.
Such penetration should not be a problem with a malleable implant. The implant won't allow any sharp bends which is critical for penetration. It's impossible to go soft.
Although the malleable implant was useful when it was first introduced, I think it's obsolete. The malleable implant is very simple. No pumping needed. Nothing to break. No other hardware except what is in the penis. It's always ready.
Do you have spontaneous erections around your implant? No, I have not noticed any spontaneous erection around the implant. Keep in mind that I had prostate cancer, so getting an erection before the implant was difficult. Again, I have only had the implant for a couple months so the ability to have a supplemental size increase beyond what the implant represents may be possible.
3. And your glan? It remains soft with excitement? Yes it remains soft
4. Have you tried to take Viagra? Yes, I don't see a great deal of difference with it but there is some improvement in size.
5. The implant is rock hard? Or only sufficient to penetrate? The implant is definitely hard enough to penetrate. No question about that. When the implant was first put in, it was very stiff all the time and difficult to bend. This was partly due to the soreness after the surgery. Within a few weeks the rods became more bendable and more comfortable.
6. How hard is it from 10 - 100% Without clothes, the implant generally gravitates to a 70% erect state if it's not being bent. Although it's bendable, there are only certain ways to bend it and it is noticeable under clothes.
I do plan to have the malleable implant replaced with an inflatable type in a few months. I believe the inflatable type is preferable to the malleable even with the extra hardware. I'm also anxious to gain back some of the size and girth that I lost from prostate cancer surgery.
I hope that answers your questions.

Re: SEMI-RIGID IMPLANT QUESTIONS
Hi ... Hoping you can help me with your experiences.
5 weeks ago I was implanted with an inflatable device. I had so much discomfort after three weeks, there was concern of infection so my surgeon (Andrew Kramer in MD) removed the inflatable device and put in the semi-rigid type. He said a fair number of men who have replaced the inflatable for whatever reason with the semi rigid wondered afterward why they went with the inflatable in the first place.
Although after a couple months it is possible to try and replace the semi rigid with a new inflatable, most men he says, opt to stay with the semi rigid.
I know both types have advantages and disadvantages but it seems like they push the inflatable as "state of the art" but it is the most costly and complicated.
I am 10 day out from my surgery now for the semi rigid device and still have some scrotal pain and sensitivity around the penis especially at the base. Sitting is getting better but not great as of yet. Point is, the situation is improving, albeit very, very slowly, but I still know it is there.
Haven't tried bending yet. Doc says to wait at least 2 weeks after surgery.
Bending down far enough for concealment seems a stretch to me right now but maybe in another week or two will seem more feasible.
Did any of you ultimately get a semi rigid device?
If so, are you satisfied and how long after implantation surgery before you become comfortable with it?
How long till you were able to resume sex after your surgery?
Any insight you can give me on your experience would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
Joe

Re: SEMI-RIGID IMPLANT QUESTIONS
I am a semiridgid recipient for one year now. As I got a very bad infection from a 23cm coloplast titan implant. I can say that I really dont like the semiridgid implant. For one my length is about 1and a half inches shorter after all the swelling goes down and 3/4 of an inch less of girth. The erction is very bendable and unstable. From 1 to10 I would give it an overall score of maybe 5 or 6. If your completely impotent. Its better than nothing but really not that good. Im waiting to get the Ams Lgx maybe that will restore some length and some girth. I hope. Thats really all I can say about the semiridgid implant. Its not my choice.
Re: SEMI-RIGID IMPLANT QUESTIONS
Your circumstances are very similar to mine. My Titan was also replaced with the semi rigid type due to infection after the first surgery. I am so sorry to hear you are not happy. In my case the same size semi rigid was used as the inflatable one that failed. I am not thrilled by the size but in my case, anything is better than nothing.
Question I have for you is .... my last surgery was 10 days ago. My pain is reducing day by day but very, very, very slowly. Today I am still in discomfort. My Doc says it may be at least another week before most pain is gone. Can you tell me how long it was before most of your pain was gone and how long until you could resume sexual activity?

Re: SEMI-RIGID IMPLANT QUESTIONS
HI SR68GTO Andrew Kramer did mine also. Um to answer your question about pain is it seems like it took maybe 3 to 4 months for the scrotum to heal and to be sort of comfortable with the implant. Its definately something to get used to having a semi hardon. Its been almost a year now. And im finally getting used to it. I cant wear underwear anymore. Its to uncomfortable. I hope I amswered your questions ok. Im ready for the inflatable bad now. Lol
