Which cylinders blow out more often?

Coloplast or AMS? My AMS LGX lasted just 4.5 years before blowing out the left cylinder (near where it exits from my groin). I had been led to believe that these implants are virtually indestructible, but not so in my case.

Now I am faced with having to get another implant, and naturally I am leaning toward a Coloplast this time. Does anyone know if the Coloplast is more likely/less likely than the AMS LGX to blow out?

I've heard unless 'she rides you like a cowgirl' your implant (mine is an AMS CX) should last 10+ years. Us older guy and gals like it, slow and steady, not to aggressive (I think) ;) My brother's ex broke his. :o Seriously.

Coloplast cylinders have reportedly thicker walls, which is why the flaccid penis with a Coloplast Titan is a little stiffer.

None. They only blow out once per cylinder.

Anyone can damage an implant and even a natural penis can be fractured when stressed by accident or over-enthusiastic sex or a mis-guided pelvic thrust or bounce.

But if you want safety, just be educated and ride safely.

Some blowouts occur through no fault of the user, though. Look up "S-shaped deformity". Some implants, improperly sized get kinks in them which make the cylinder wall weaker at the kink point. Blowout can occur at the weak point.

My point is that a failure of the cylinder is one of the risks, but the pump, the valve, the tubing connections can also fail, and probably do more often. So, you make your decision, to go ahead or not and take all appropriate steps to mitigate risk and enhance chances for success.

Sorry I cannot be more informative, but you have my best wishes. Don't let fear rule the day. But caution is healthy. (IF that advice is not contradictory)

My understanding is that both brands are good quality. I haven't heard anything to the effect that says one brand blows out more often than the other. What I have heard is Coloplast is thicker/heavier and is harder in the flaccid state and possibly provides a harder erection. I've heard that AMS is better at maximizing length. Sorry you've had a blowout. I hope that is no what happens to me :-(

Well, I certainly didn't expect it to happen to me either. But it did.... :(

After years of dysfunction and related anxiety, and after finally having saved $20,000 for the implant, I flew to the USA for the procedure. I was told that it should last at least 10 years, but it didn't last half that long (about 4.5 years only).

Now I have to save money to fly to the USA again, and also money to pay for the procedure (again). Since, hopefully, the device will be provided (per the warranty), I expect to pay about $16,000 this time (flights, hotel, car rental, surgeon's fee, clinic fee, meds, etc.).

So it looks like I will have a total investment (so far) of about $36,000. And that is for just slightly over 5 years of use now. That works out to about $600 per month that I have been paying so far...

And keep in mind that I haven't put my device through any sort of extreme sex or frequent use.... I probably average using it 2 times per month (since I've had it). That works out to about $300 per use I suppose....... Maybe I should just give up sex entirely and buy a new house or car instead?

Wolf, sorry to hear you have to get your implant replaced. Does anyone know why the implants sometimes wear out after only 3 or 4 yrs instead of 10+ years? Has anyone had their implants for over 15-20 years? If so, what do you attribute the longevity to? Thanks.

Sorry to here wolf, what brand and model do you have that only lasted 4-1/2 years? Also what failed, the pump, lines or the actual implant. The good news is the devise is replaced free of charge, contact the manufacturer.

I asked a similar question. I am of the age where a mid-life crisis is common (or a bit older). So, I could buy a hot sports car (the common sign of male midlife crisis) or an implant. Both about the same price and having similar service life.

.But health insuance won't consider a sports car.
