Can someone please confirm if they use a Foley Catheter during the penile implant procedure? If so, can I ask they don't use the catheter on me? Unless I'm missing something, the procedure is only 45-60 minutes. So why the need for a catheter? Can I ask they don't use one as it seems to be unnecessary pain on top of everything else. Thanks.

I've never heard of an implant procedure that did not include catheterization. You can certainly ask your surgeon, but I wouldn't get my hopes up.

From what I understand, the placement of the Foley catheter is important to identify the location of the urethra when doing the corporotomies using the peno-scrotal approach. It provides a landmark to help avoid accidental incision into the urethra. I had one with my implant surgery, it was inserted after I was under anesthesia, and I removed it the next day. It was no big deal, and there was almost no pain whatsoever. I have heard that some doctors using the infra-pubic approach do not insert a Foley, for example, Dr. Perito states in his videos that a catheter is not used. I would talk to your surgeon about it, but if he uses one, don't worry about it. A Foley is a very small inconvenience in getting an implant, and may very well assist the surgeon in providing you the best results possible.

I agree with FlaDon. For me it was a non-issue. However, looking back I was thankful for it as it allowed me to just lay in bed or the recliner and not having to worry about constantly getting up. In fact, I would worry more about not having one.

I haven't yet gotten an implant, although it is in my near future. However, I have had a Foley on a couple of occasions. It is a bit uncomfortable going inn but a nothing coming out. They pout it in when you are under, so trust us, it's just mot a big deal.

The worst part of the catheter for me was the rest of the day after my surgery and during the night. It was uncomfortable and made me feel like I had to pee all the time. So, at this point in my recovery, I took the pain meds. I have never taken a catheter out before, but it would be my job to do because I was in a hotel room.

I got in the bathtub, took the syringe and sucked out the fluid from the balloon and slipped that baby out. That wasn't bad at all and voila, I was back to normal.

I had to empty the receptacle about every four hours, including getting up during the night.

I agree with the comments above. I particularly agree with the one that says it helps the surgeon avoid the urethra. That's pretty important.

When you wake up from your surgery with your dick wrapped up and standing at attention, the last thing you want to do is having to get out of bed to pee. I stayed overnight and the foley was removed the next morning. When your dick is operated on, the last thing the Dr. needs is involuntary discharge of urine. The foley is necessary and vital to keeping the operation sterile as there will be some blood in your urine.
