Off Road 4x4 travel after implant

I like to take my 4x4 suv to Colorado and Utah and explore old trails and remote places and primitive camp. My next trip has been planned for months to Utah and I have it listed here: http://happyjackstrails.com/ Click on the gallery tab for a few pics of the trail.

Does anyone do this kind of thing with an implant? The trails are pretty rough and beat me up a bit bouncing in my 4x4 all day for 5 or 6 days straight.

After you're fully healed, sure. Before could be mighty uncomfortable.

Would 6 months after surgery be enough time?

newbie 443, At 6 months i think that you should be able to do the trip with no major issues, UNLESS .
If you have issues(trouble) where you need to work hard for a few hours or strain a lot, I think that most of us would "feel the pain". If you have some buddies to take up the slack and do most of the heavy work then you probably will not have an issue. You know that none of us are as young and tough as we used to be.
Take care and keep me posted on your decisions.

My oldest son will be with me for the heavy stuff if there is any and a friend and his Mom in a built Jeep. I was just worried about all the bouncing on the rough road. Might even have others join in for some or all the trip. My decision is made now I just need to finalize things and gather a bit more information tomorrow and I'll change my signature. Things seem to always change a bit no matter what so when I have everything locked down I'll know for sure. Just a little over 24 hours from now (I hope) if things don't change before then.

Thanks for all the help and I hope to contact you tomorrow evening for that information.

If bicyclists and motorcyclists can manage, I wager that you will have little trouble.

Bucylists sometimes/often get a seat with a cutout for comfort. You MIGHT benefit from a donut-shaped cushion or the like. Doubtful it would be necessary, At 6 months, you will have ample opportunity to adjust and decide.

Hey newbie
I been riding my atv hard for months. I live in the woods and do some pretty nasty trails. I am 8 months post op. Not a problem. Shoulders and forearms take more of a beating. Implant really doesnt restrict you. Like others said here once your healed you should be fine. The disclaimer however would be ask your doc. Happy trails !

That is encouraging. One trip years ago I had 2 full ammo cans I was carrying and fell backwards and landed on a rock with hitting my tail bone. I finished the rough dirt road we were on and highway to the next trail and did that mostly pushing myself up off the seat on the seat back. Then 900 miles home. I can deal with pain. I was mostly concerned with not damaging my new device. Your post has helped me in regards to that. Thank you.
