Assuming that the implant is cycled at least once a day, how long would its life expectancy be ?

First (upper limit) estimate is 7300. 365 days X 2 times per day x 10 years (currently the typical service life).

But if you only cycle once a week do not expct 70 years.;-)

Might be good to also ask about typical modes of failure.

There are an infinite amount of variables. No one can answer that question. careful study would indicate the the maximum life is about 15 years, yet some don't make it a year. Common sense would tell you that keeping it north on your underwear with little bending during times if non use would save wear and tear on the cylinders. Hard to tell what is best for the ball that moves to cycle the valve. My guess is that the manufacturers to meet FDA requirements have tested that part to thousands of cycles. The tubing joints are potential failure points as are the tubes themselves, so the less stretching and bending there the better. But, how do you account for aggressive sex? No telling what wear my implant has had with a partners orgasm in cowboy lol.

So. the important thing to me is, almost to a man on here everyone would or will get another implant immediately if they have a failure. They are that good.

Me included!

Hey, thanks for the reply. Do you have a source for the 7300 estimate ?

Well from what I've understood the estimates of 10 yrars are based on average usage, which is about two times a week

"Life expectancy of penile implants varies from 5 to 20 years and based on past historical data and current available improved implants. I estimate that an implant placed today will most likely last 10 to 15 years. Several patients in my practice have a working penile implant for more than 20 years. Like any other mechanical device, the penile implant is subject to wear and tear and the more it is used the sooner it will breakdown. Average use of a penile implant is considered to be one to two times per week."

Which made me wonder how long it would last if it was cycled once a day at least.

Anyone here who uses their implants once a day, and it hasnt malfuncntioned for 5+ years ?

A common service life in recent times is reported to be about 10 years. It is the length of tine most often cited here and I recall a surgeon mentioning that number as a benchmark.

But I have no peer-reviewed authoritative sources. Just the math of 10 yrs365 days and 2 times per day.
