As always, the word is "Do what your doc tells you."

Just don't expect all the docs to be consistent. The various Frank Talk posts about injection frequency show that guys have gotten recommendations ranging from no more than once a week to no more than once a day. (Lucky me. My doc is a once-a-day guy.)

Also, a few of the FT posters talk about occasionally doing more than once a day — such as bed time sex followed by morning sex — without ill effect. These guys, including this one, are doing this contrary to doctors' instructions.

The most cautious doctors will tell you no more than 3-4 times a week, with at least 24 hours between each injection. The most liberal doctors will tell you once a day, with 24 hours in between. What you settle on is up to you, and how your penis responds to the frequency.

I have injected twice a day during vacations, with no ill effects. Once I injected three times in one day and experienced some swelling. It was as if the tissues in the penis were becoming irritated, causing the swelling. However, it went away after about a day. Also, that three-times-in-one-day marathon also happened on vacation when I was injecting every day.

So for me the limit is twice in one day with 6-8 hours in between. I find it also helps to take a day off from injecting every third day or so if it is a vacation.

Good luck.

I've only tried trimix, so I can't compare it to the others. However, I can't recall hearing of anyone reporting a burning sensation from trimix -- although I may have missed those posts. When is it burning, when you inject or all throughout the session. If it is happening on injection the burning may come from alcohol you used to clean your penis before inserting the needle.

I inject only mono-mix AKA PGE1.

I inject usually no more than every other day or 3 times a week. Like others have mentioned, I have done it more often on vacation, without noticeable damage.

I have several times experienced burning as I start to depress the plunger. I take that as an indication that I'm not injecting in the correct spot and immediately stop. I inject slowly so I can easily stop quickly before much meds get injected. I then change the injection depth and try again.

There is also "alprostadil ache" that is fairly common when starting. It is my understanding that in many users, over time, the ache diminishes and often eventually stops as the user continues using the medication. That was my experience. I no longer get any "alprostadil ache" unless I inject more than necessary when wanting a marathon erection bordering on priapism territory. Not a recommended practice. However, there is a minority on users that remain too sensitive to "alprostadil ache" and have to try other options.

In my humble non-medical opinion, it is good if you are successful with PGE1 injections. I have read some studies that indicate that PGE1 has less risk of tissue damage than the other ingredients of tri-mix. It's also my understanding that PGE1 is the most effective ingredient of tri-mix at producing the desired erection.

Good luck.

I believe you're correct that tri-mix is not FDA approved. PGE1 or alprostadil is approved in the form of Caverject and Edex but I use alprostadil compounded by a compounding pharmacy. I don't know if it's FDA approved in that form. But I can afford the compounded version while I couldn't afford Edex. I also prefer using normal syringes rather than the proprietary Edex cartridges. However, I do like the shelf life of the Edex.

I am an engineer and need hard data. My doctor recommended 10 to 20 units of Trimix. I can get by with 6 units and it works for an hour. Why is it worse to inject 2 times at 6 units vs 1 injection of 12 units. Why is the number of injections more important than the dosage?
