First Injection Hurt and Concerned About Trying Again

Postby HardTimes » Thu Apr 18, 2019 11:45 pm

Hello to all,

I’m a new member, glad to have found this forum. I had a radical prostatectomy 4/14/17 and have been cancer free for two years. I had experienced ED before I had prostate cancer. I tried Viagra, Cialis Daily, with no success. My internist prescribed 100 mg Viagra after my operation, but it had no effect. I’m also on Prozac daily, which I’ve heard is a huge ED causer. I'm also on Xaralto for clots.

At my last checkup earlier this month I asked to try the trimix injections. I received a small vial of trimix last week and took it to the appointment this week. I am overweight to the point of not being able to see my penis. The Dr. thought that might be a problem with the injections even looking at things in a mirror. I asked my wife if she would consider injecting the trimix, but she hasn’t responded yet. Anyone else had a weight problem but was able to inject by looking in a mirror?

The Dr. did the first injection with me seated on the exam table. I could feel every millimeter of that needle going in and it hurt, followed by a burning sensation. I had kept the trimix in the freezer for a week and the temperature could have contributed to the burning (vial now kept in the refrigerator).

I am amazed at the number of members reporting no pain with injecting. My needle wrapper says it’s .3 x 13 mm. The needle measures a little over an inch long and all of it must go in. The first dose of .30 had little to no effect. Dr. advised trying .40 the next time and keep increasing until satisfied with the erection.

Questions:
1. Is it worth trying an autoinjector and is there a brand you recommend?
2. Are there thinner and shorter needles?
3. Based on what I’ve written, do you have any suggestions?

Many thanks for your help,
HardTimes (I hope someday)

Translation: 30 gauge/1/2". Much thinner and you risk a needle breaking. Especially with shaky hands. There are shorter syringes. 5/16" seem popular. You didn't mention the formula. I started with Edex 20 which is the same as Monomix/ Alprostadil/ PDE1. I was pretty squeamish at 1st but I figured diabetics poke themselves all the time so I soon got over it. The 1st 4 shot burned like heck and didn't help. The next 4 didn't burn at all but still no cigar. I'm now on my 3rd iteration of Trimix so hopefully you'll meet with success with your current formula.Try asking your significant other again. My wifey is also reluctant but I can get a good view so that's not a big deal. Tell her the one thing you don't want to do is hit a vein so you NEED her assistance. Not so much because of pain but you risk a bruise and that can be off putting. An Autoject might be just the ticket.

I get a little pain from putting the needle but the real pain can come from the injection. I put a very small amount in and wait a few seconds for the burn to leave and put more in slowly. My problem is it does not get me hard enough and I have maxed out with what my doc . will give me, sooo I am looking at implant. Good luck with the wife helping it is really helpful getting her onboard. :)

Because the possibility of needle breakage has been raised in this thread, I'll re-post something I contributed to another thread a few days ago (even though it's weird to be quoting yourself);

Don't worry about a 31 or any other needle "snapping" in normal use. You can prove it to yourself by taking a pair of pliers to a used syringe and bending the needle sharply back and forth — like you would to break a wire.

You'll have to give it around 20 reps of bending before the needle will weaken. Doing this experiment once does great things for your peace of mind.

Mine hurt like that too... both because of the needle and because the cold medicine burned going in./ I took 4 or 5 injections and then went for the implant, although I didn't know it. :)

Use a 31x5/16 needle. Get the trimix under warm water and heat it up, Hold the needle like a dart and jab it in. I had bad results with auto injectors. they inject so fast that the needle tip bends when it hits the tunica. IF you try auto inject, use a 29 ga needle x 5/16.
When I injected, I jabbed it in. Then I would jab again to get through the hard tunica. If you feel resistance to the plunger, you are not in yet.
Good luck.

I was told that I had to inject it cold... maybe it wasn't the same stuff... :)
