Questions regarding getting implant surgery far from home
Questions regarding getting implant surgery far from home
In this case by "far from home" I mean a 3 to 5 hour drive each way. Curious due to distance, how many visits would be typical... guessing one for initial consultation, one for surgery....and then what ?

Usually one or two for follow-up and cycling.

Would staying overnight for followup the day after surgery be typical ?

I am going to say, "yes".
The surgery CAN be done on an out-patient basis, but typically the medical support provided by a stay for several hours is beneficial, especially since a catheter is usually in place overnight. Anyone undergoing a general anesthetic is usually kept overnight until bowel function is normal. (Sometimes a spinal block is used.)
I spent overnight (just less than 24 hours so the classification of having been "admitted" into hospital "officially") and was glad I did. The presence of support staff was reassuring. Followup exam by the surgeon to examine the surgical wound and look for any sign of infection should be absolutely standard for any surgery where infection is such a high-consequence event.

My surgery was 7 hours away. I was in hospital until the next day and then we stayed in a hotel for another day (just in case) and then I went home. My surgeon arranged with a local urologist to take care of me post operatively. One or two checks and then cycling.

Dr. Perito made my out of state operation go completely smooth. Had penile Doppler by local urologist for diagnosis of Venous leakage. Set up operation with Dr. Perito. I went to his office in Miami for the very first time on a Monday for preliminary check up and then had the Surgery on Wednesday and flew home on Thursday. He glued my insicion so didn't have to go back for staple removal. I sent him pictures via text and was able to start cycling in JUST TWO WEEKS!! Was a little painful but bruising and swelling were all pretty much gone. I can't say enough how impressed I am with him and his office. They are five stars and then some.
