Penile shrinkage

Postby lewvino » Fri Jul 31, 2009 8:41 am

My date with the Robot is in 10 days. Of course all the different 'side effects' concern me. Has any one tried any of those devices that 'stretch' the penis? Do they work? Just another sales gimmick? I forget the exact name I was looking at on the web. Seems like it has several rings to hold the penis and side bars that can be adjusted for length.

Believe it or not, I was just reading about the penile extenders with the two side bars and a ring behind the head of your penis to stretch it out. Apparently this thing is a treatment for some guys for Peyronie's disease. And it actually does work to stretch out the penis. BUT all the warnings are incredibly scary...broken nerves, completely dysfunctional dicks, numb dicks, broken urethras etc. In short - please don't even think about these things. Unless they are under a doctor's care and he adjusts the tension, it is asking for permanent injury.

Relax, with a GOOD surgeon who does not interrupt blood flow, you will be fine. Also, the use of viagra and pumps help prevent this. Frankly, the younger guys I have talked to in person all say they have NO noticeable shrinkage. I MAY have lost 1/4 inch, but really, I can't tell. I was always 6" - just like I was always 6' tall - I think, with the use of drugs I am still that - but now I'm 5'11.5"! I have not measured since, but I think I am the same..perhaps and maybe 1/4 inch less...but that is so little I do not care.

It is NOT from losing urethra length, btw. For some guys, if blood flow is severely disrupted, the smooth muscle atrophies. The atrophy does not reverse itself. for men who did not pump or JO a lot, the fresh blood and tissue did not stay healthy. Be sure you have a good surgeon who will keep it neat and clean down there with little artery and vein abuse. You will be fine. Just get on the pump and viagra when the catheter comes out and you will be fine.
Talk to your doc. ask him to be really honest about this. Most docs will dismiss it - cause they are afraid you will either sue or not go through with surgery. But my surgeon assured me it was surgeon's skill that prevented this.

Thanks for the thoughts. When I was reading about it I saw it mention about 'tears etc' in the penile tissue. That of course concerned me. I discussed it with my wife last night and we both seemed to think like you are saying....Talk to the Doctor about it. Which of course I will. He has allready given me the 'penile rehabilitation' pamplet which starts with the pills after the cath comes out. I did a measurement the other night so I can combare post surgery on the actual length post surgery! Gee felt like a 16 year old kid again getting the old ruler out!

Larry, the best item to use to combat shrinkage and to help in penile recovery is a good medical grade penis pump. The pills are fine for the blood flow and tissue infusion, and the pump will really help to keep the penis 'exercised' by engorging it with fresh blood, expanding the cavernous cavities and stretching the tissue and ligaments within. You don't have to get a $500 pump, either. There's several available, medical grade with safety relief valves in the under $100 range.

Hi Larry. I bought an Encore pump that is manual and battery operated. I've used it in manual mode many times. While it hasn't given me anything useable, it does get me most of the way there. Yeah, it hurts a bit sometimes but I'm taking it slow. I try for a bit more for a little longer each time. I don't know anything about the penile extenders except at first glance they look like they could cause a lot of damage if used incorrectly. Like probably many guys after surgery I was getting smaller. The pump is helping. Good luck on your surgery.

My Urologist told me about an inch, and that the pump is reported to help with the restoration. I can't say for sure on my loss of length because I'm still ED after 8 months. I have an appointment with the pump guy at they Urologist office in two weeks.

Hi Dandapani,

Good luck with your appointment. My pump has helped and is continuing to help. IMO they work but, you have to use them often.

Keep us posted.

I came to this question late - after you've had the surgery. Two days post op, when I looked down into my pants and saw a shaved bush with a second navel, I thought I'd had a sex change operation by mistake!
I didn't just lose an inch, my friend. I lost the whole package. Now, 6-7 weeks post op, it is coming back with a little shaking and a VED pump.
They say size doesn't matter but we all know that is BS. You gotta have at least enough to aim. Geez.

This Wednesday will be one month post surgery with the robot. While the cath was in my penis was kind of shunk up. But now it is back to normal size! Don't know how long that will last but at least for now there has been no difference in size.
