What are some or the reasons why some have gotten them and do you all have the same sensation as an inflatable penis?

Older men tend to get them when they dont have the dexterity to pump up using their hands.

Some guys with too much scar tissue in various areas also get them because its less invasive.

In addition to the two contraindications mentioned already (prior surgeries making installation of a reservoir or pump inadvisable and lack of ability to manipulate the pump) malleable implants are used as "space holders" when an implant is removed for some reason (infection, implant failure, etc) and a replacement 3-piece (or two-piece) is precluded for some reason (clearing infection or a healing process, etc)

Usually the "place holder" is intended to be temporary and eventually replaced with an inflatable.

Hello,
I m implanted with semi rigid (as space holder due to infection).
It feels very close to inflatable, let s say it s like being 2/3 inflated and when aroused seems suitable for intercourse. I m 2 weeks and half post op.

Have not tried intercourse yet.

My surgeon told me the pros and cons of all the implants and at least for me he said he would advise against the malleable because of the constant pressure it applies inside the glans. There are cases where it has to be removed when it tears that lining.
I am 64 and had ED from a VL. Implanted by Dr. Ronald Anglade in Atlanta on 9/18/17. I have an AMS700LGX 21 cm via a Penoscrotal incision. Very happy with results. 6" soft and 6 3/4” x 5 5/8” hard.

Robert51, are there downsides that we might not know about (the ones mentioned earlier in this thread are the only common ones I know)?

Manufacturers make both inflatable and malleable implants. Both types have advantages and disadvantages. The inflatable prosthesis produces an effect very close to natural erection - flaccid when not in use but rigid when appropriate. It is almost impossible for someone to know it is present from appearance alone.

But these inflatable devices are mechanically more complicated. All these parts can fail. One can expect the need to replace the device eventually, maybe every 7 - 10 years. Sometimes more often. Some men have difficulty inflating or deflating the pump (men with impaired hand function after a stroke, severe arthritis, hand amputation, etc).

The malleable devices are simple to implant and with no moving parts are incredibly reliable. They can last decades in place, but as noted above, can extrude from continuous pressure. There is little to fail mechanically and no pump and tubing in a man’s scrotum. Some types produce an extremely firm or rigid erection that is almost too firm. But of course, they produce a permanent rigid erection. It can be bent down when not needed and up when needed. Most men will wear a jock or tight fitting underwear to keep it concealed under street clothes. Concealment can be a problem for the big guys.

Because a “permanent” erection is not a natural state, it is more likely it will be obvious in the bedroom and the locker room. A malleable implant is not going to be a secret from friends and partners. Some men find that a problem, but many are not bothered that that at all. (Would it matter to you if your wife or a few friends knew you had an implant?)

It is great that there are options for us as we ponder going bionic.
