Re: FELLOW VETS USING EDEX ??????
OK, I'm out of town taking care of some family related business. After having had conversations with you on this topic I figured, what the heck, let me see. So I took two of my somewhat badly expired Edex 20s and some syringes with me. I'm alone on this trip so we're talking solo activity, AKA "maintenance doses".
The first time I reconstituted the Edex in it's cartridge per instructions. I then removed the little pin type needle and drew out 1/3 of the reconstituted juice with a syringe and then froze the the remainder of the juice in the original Edex cartridge in the freezer. One third or the cartridge works out to about .33ml or 33 units. I used the "maintenance dose" as expected. As a side note the "maintenance dose" would be insufficient for PIV but that's not really relevant to the experiment.
A couple of days later I pulled the previously reconstituted Edex cartridge out of the freezer. It was frozen solid. I then thawed it by holding it in my fingers. Once thawed I drew out the second third of the original reconstituted cartridge, another .33ml or 33 units and then returned the cartridge to the freezer. (The rubber plugs in the cartridge do move as you inject air or draw out the juice.) I again used this "maintenance dose" as expected with identical results.
A couple of days later I repeated the sequence and used the remaining .33ml or 33 units, again with the same results. I should note that I swabbed the needle end of the cartridge before each use. I didn't notice any noticeable needle dulling by drawing through the rubber plug of the cartridge.
I haven't, as of yet, repeated the experiment with the second cartridge but I see no reason to expect different results, nor do I foresee changing the procedure.
I'm definitely not recommending this procedure as it is clearly contrary to the provided instructions. I seem to have survived the experience intact, at least so far.
Good luck!
Take that for what it's worth, which only you can determine.

Re: FELLOW VETS USING EDEX ??????
Coming from my point of view as well as pharmacy technician. As well as a veteran having to deal with the VA.
I couldn’t recommend even slightly saving the product as it’s not how long the drug is good for but more along the lines of contamination which could lead to a serious complications.
We term products as sterile up to the needle going in then it becomes aseptic that is if we do our jobs right the risk of contamination is low. Keep in mind that we work in a clean room in specially designed cabinets to be as safe as possible.
Since as I said I’d rather skip intercourse and find pleasure with oral or manual stimulation rather than risk an infection. That is what my wife and I did until we had enough set aside and new to be able to have sex 2 to 3 times a week.
I was using the CavedJect impulse which I did prefer to the couple of times the VA sent me Edex but used both
This totally my opinion as I said I’m a pharmacy technician or a doctor or pharmacist

OK, I respect your expertise as a pharmacy tech.
However, explain please how the method I described differs from doing the same thing with the vials, I get dispensed from the compounding pharmacy, of alprostadil already reconstituted by the compounder into similar saline in 1ml vials, that I'm instructed to keep frozen and thaw for each draw. I was treating the Edex cartridge as one of those vials as dispensed by my compounding pharmacy.

Re: FELLOW VETS USING EDEX ??????
Mind you I’m just guessing here but depending on the medication used they could have a preservative or bacteriostatic agent added. If not a problem that is what I would do in a compound that is going to be around longer than than what the tested literature says. Every thing we do where I work is based on that. I’ve seen dates range from one day to 14 days it all depends on the drug.
Freezing or refrigeration of product slows bacterial growth and drug degradation. I couldn’t find any information on freezing or why a 24 hour dating if refrigerated on plain alprostadile Edex & Caverject).
I don’t know if the medication forms crystals even if the crystals are too small to be seen the still could be there.
Medications differ in how they behave based on concentration kind of like salt or sugar you can forced super concentrated solution that is good then one crystal more creates the whole thing to start falling out of solution
Like I said I’m not a pharmacist or doctor my job is basically is to get a medication to the patient after the doctor and pharmacist processes it. The pharmacist is paid to know what a medication is and how to give advise a patient.
You could as the pharmacy that you got the compounded medication from as they may have information from that I don’t have access to.
Again it’s my opinion based on nothing more than what I’ve seen and what I would do.
Nothing keeps you from exploring like a previous post mentioned. But like any off label use it’s at your discretion.

Re: FELLOW VETS USING EDEX ??????
Well i have gathered a few vets who freeze the leftover and reuse so i wonger maybe the company is assuming that the user will freeze the product in the syringe it came in and that poses the danger i mix it and injected the whole amount into a trimix vial then drew from there as i use an inject ease
edex and tri mix 45/1/27 26 units
Re: FELLOW VETS USING EDEX ??????
Well seems both caverjet and edex use same instructions
edex and tri mix 45/1/27 26 units
Re: FELLOW VETS USING EDEX ??????
Robert,
My problem with that method is the repeated reusing of the same vial. That would cause me concern. I'd think it would be better to reconstitute the cartridge and then draw up all the syringes at once and then freeze those than to reuse old vials. I find that kinda scary and I obviously do some off label stuff. The method I previously described treats the cartridge as the vial and is only used for the life of the contents of the cartridge. I'm also not going to inject directly with the Edex cartridge and then save and reuse the Edex needle or even the cartridge if I injected directly from it, fearing contamination from backwash.
You will have difficulty finding a pharmacist or medical professional that will tell you it's OK do do something the prescribing literature tells you not to do. And I'm sure as hell not telling you to do it. And I'm sure as hell no medical professional. I just described my experience. I had absolutely no issues other than earlier today my dick suddenly fell off but I doubt it's connected. You are certainly out on your own and flying solo if you take up such practices. The good advice, were I to give any, would be to follow the prescribing information and don't deviate from it.

Re: FELLOW VETS USING EDEX ??????
Well one study says freez trimix another never freez pge1 (edex or caverjet) so i will take the middle road mix a 40 of edex use 60 units store the rest room temp and uses within i week
edex and tri mix 45/1/27 26 units
Re: FELLOW VETS USING EDEX ??????
Oh heck no, don't store reconstituted Edex at room temperature.
