I am politically quite left, far left really, and I don't know what is more disappointing, that I have to travel thousands of miles AND pay a shit load of money for this surgery or the fact that our universal health care systems in Europe do not produce the kind of surgeon that can pull of these procedures flawlessly.

It's clear that only the private competitive market is producing world class surgeons here.

Maybe now you’re getting closer to realizing that the free market produces the BEST results. Nothing motivates better than profit.

If you're in the UK then the best private surgeons will also work in the NHS.
The only difference is that you have to wait longer and hope you get the one you want. These are big draw backs, but it's incredible value for money, especially compared to American care.

Point being, there are many andrologists in the UK who can hold their own against Eid, Kramer, Perito and so on. They are all at the elite end, and differences between them are insignificant. Bot countries will have a higher number of 'okay' andrologists than 'elite', same as any other skilled occupation. But get yourself an elite and you're splitting hairs choosing among them.

The Brits are just less vocal about it and they don't advertise (they are already swamped), that and British culture is less 'in your face I'm number one' orientated in general.

And I say this as someone who is just barely left of centre.

I'm fairly certain that is the co-pay after the insurance paid.

Gt1956,
You’re absolutely right. That was my copay.
I have employer sponsored Aetna insurance with fairly dissent coverage.

There are many doctors in Canada, UK, Germany, Sweden, India, Japan that are far superior than profit making doctors from the US. To profit, they need to advertise, which make them more well known, not necessarily better.

I'm not so sure that the top names do very much advertising in the USA. Why should they? To the best of my knowledge they have booming practices & are quite busy as is. I never heard of any of them until I joined FT & started watching YouTube videos. Btw, there are a lot of implant videos from England & Australia on YouTube.
The reality of healthcare is that it is rationed around the world. It's done by using different methods. Absolutly none of them are fair or perfect.
Much noise is made about costs here on FT in the American system. Lots of things to factor in to arrive at the real costs. Prices billed by the hospitals is totally fake. Every insurance company negotiates huge discounts for covered services.
I can only speak for my situation. My monthly health insurance costs me about $500 a month. I worked for a pretty good employer for 40+ years. He picks up about the same as I do. My prescription run me $7 each for a 3 month supply if I use the insurance companies online pharmacy. I do have 1 that is not generic so it costs $80 for 3 months. My type 2 diabetes now requires insulin treatment. I've found the best deal is to just buy it at Wal-Mart. No prescription required. Runs me about $50 for about a 4 1/2 week supply. I can call my physician & get an appointment to see him in less than 1 week. He does have 1 day a week that he is open late. It is pretty easy to see him on those late days.
I think the big difference is keeping the government out of my wallet. My pension is fully taxable but I'm in the 12% bracket. Any time a beurocrate touches money some of it disappears. My European cousin that speaks very good English. Told me that some of his income is taxed at 70%. I can afford to pay for healthcare easily based upon the income tax savings between his country & mine.
This isn't meant to argue or thump my chest. Just that the differences in healthcare isn't as easily seen as it may look. Each country has their priorities & sets their own rules. I'm ok with that.
