Need doctor recommendations in or close to Texas

Postby Guns_up » Fri Nov 29, 2019 7:40 pm

Hello all, first post here. I’m 42 had ED since my thirties but had been manageable with pills. About 2-3 years ago ED got worse. Went to local urologist and was prescribed penile injections. Worked fine for <10 times. Then I noticed I got no longer get erections. Even with the shot. It was as if the shot caused some damage to the penis. I am about 50% at girth and length. Even if I feel rock hard. My penis is about 50% of what it used to be. It’s like the shot damaged my penis and no nothing gets me to my natural self. I’m thinking the next step is a implant. I’m young and hopefully and god willing still have at least 20 years in me. I looked for the best doctors and found Dr. Eid in New York. But before making costly travel and other arrangements, I wanted to ask if you guys have any recommendations of doctors in Texas (where I live) or neighboring states. I can’t afford to lose any size and I heard Doctor Eid was great at preserving that. But would be great to find a closer doctor that is just as good. Please help. I want the best possible outcome and surgeon if I can help it. Appreciate any info or advice.

Funny, I'm 58 and I say exactly the same thing about myself and I'm 16 years older than you are. You ought to be looking forward to 30 or more years (God willing, 40-50). I'm being conservative when I say I hope for 20 years because realistically, 78 is about my family's male life expectancy but I'm 58 with the looks, mind and attitude of a 40-45 year old (aside from a bit of greying and hair loss), so I would hope for and wouldn't be surprised if I had more like 25-30 left, maybe more.

It depends upon the surgeon & the costs associated with the general location of the surgical facility. Some cities are just more expensive than others. I personally think if you were to buget $20k that you wouldn't break it by a lot.

Howdy GunsUp. That screen name sounds like it might be attached to an individual who attended a Texas a Tech. If that's the case, then for an implant I recommend this guy over in a Nuevo Laredo, he supposedly puts them in for $399 US.

Seriously,, though, I am sort of in the same boat. I'd like to have this done yesterday, but we've got some other things going on at the family level so realistically I'm looking at April. That, however, does give me time to do some research.

I've talked to the surgeon who does them at Scott & White in Temple. He's not a high volume implant guy, probably 4 or 5 monthly. He's been doing them for over 15 years.

A gentleman on this board down in Marble Falls TX recommended Dr. Wang at M.D. Anderson. I can't think of a better guy to install a bionic dick than Dr. Wang. I'm told that, even though he's at M.D. Anderson, his implant practice isn't limited to guys after prostate cancer surgery. I plan to confirm or deny that maybe next week.

I've heard decent things about a doc at Baylor in Dallas.

I'm still inclined to follow my heart and go to Baltimore and have Kramer install me. On an out of pocket cash basis it is my understanding he might be among your better bets. My insurance will cover this although I have a co-pay. I asked Scott and White for the list price so I could sort of plan for a co-pay and they told me around $42K.

Southwest flies into BWI from Austin, San Antonio, Love Field, and Hobby. I've talked to the folks on the ground at his clinic and they seem to have the traveling patient deal down to a fine art.

So beats the hell out of me what I will do, or when I will do it.

Good luck.

Don't know if your BCBS is similar to my BCBS PPO (employer funded) but my employer's policies regarding our PPO insurance covers IPP implants for various reasons. I had already met my deductible and out-of-pocket max ($3000) this year because of a cash-pay colonoscopy and a three day stay in the hospital in May due to low BP and tachycardia due to dehydration brought on by Metformin use, and finally a partially cash-pay for Uro-Lift implants into my prostatic urethra to keep things open enough to pee properly.

Since I had met my out of pocket, my IPP was covered entirely. What will suck is if need revisions down the line and I have to save up for the $3000 out-of-pocket max. I guess that's doable if issues arise. It only means a year advance planning to get money into a flexible spending account or savings.

Like I said, if your BCBS coverage uses the same rules that my BCBS (of Illinois, of all places) PPO uses, you may be able to do it with only the out-of-pocket amount.

Look up Medical Policy MED201.030 on your Blue Cross website. On my insurance site you go to "PROVIDERS", then "Current and Pending Policies", then search for either MED201.030 or "Penile Implant".

Might look at that link. Or go to the Show and Tell post pinned to the top of the Implant board and type Texas in the search for that thread. There are other doctors in Texas that I have read some good things about so you might just do a search for Texas or TX in the Implant board.

For out of pocket cost if your insurance does not cover implants you might look at this link: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=12950

Hey Guns up I'm in your area.

I believe the closest high volume guy to us is Dr. Jones in San Antonio.

There is a guy in Houston, I think his name is Cornell, you will need to look, as well as some other well respected surgeons.

In Austin there is Kansas and Yang.

In Dallas there is Morley. I believe the moderator here Davekell used him.

Hope this helps

I used Dr Clavell in Houston Texas. I also had to pay out of pocket because insurance would not cover. The total cost for me was 19k. That is if you pay cash money the price was 19k. So for I have no complaint about this doctor. After surgery he gave me his personal phone number so that I could either text or call him with any questions or concerns. He has been very honest and he seems to care about his patients.
