Werido Doc Wanted to Take 18 Xrays!!!

Today I went today to Presbyterian Hospital in NYC for a toothache. I told the dentist I dont want any xrays but convinced me to take 2. He ended up taking 3 instead. He said I had 3 cavities: 2 that didnt take root yet and a third that was giving me pain. He gave me the option for a temporary filling. He said in order for him to do a permanent filling he'd have to take 18 xrays. Like who does that?? I asked why 18, why so many?? He said because since its a student facility of the hospital its to help educate dental students. Wtf is this???

I decided not to get the extra 18 xrays. I'll be going to another dentist instead. But I got 2 questions:

1) Since I got ED, would the 3 xrays I took make the ED worse? Should I be worried?
2) If I had opted for the 18 xrays, would the 18 xrays worsen the ED?

As for the 18 Xrays, that sounds legit. 3 photographs per class. After all, you did say it was a teaching hospital/clinic.

I'm confused by your reply. So just cuz its a school 18 xrays is legit to you for patients to be exposed to?? That makes 0 sense.

But you imply since its a school it must be ok to take that many... as opposed to a clinic its not ok. So a school can get away with radiating patients more since its a teaching body??
