Sydney, NSW Newbie

Hi all,
Firstly, let me say, what a relief this ‘community’ has been.

I am a 37yo, living in Sydney, NSW Australia. I have Type 1 diabetes (and have had so for 25 years). I have suffered from ED the past 8-9years, which has resulted in me being prescribed Cialis & Viagra, to which I’ve had a mixed response, nothing spectacular. About 8-9 months ago, I was prescribed Caverject by my Endocrinologist, which worked a dream (in that on a very low dose, I was able to sustain a decent erection). However, jabbing myself with a syringe in order to have an erection, with a max. usage of three times per week, just didn’t cut it. Around 5 months ago, I discovered this (almost 90 degree) bend in my penis, toward the very head. I feel as though it happened overnight.
Spoke with my endo, he firmly believes it is Peyronie’s disease, and has asked me to see a Urologist. To say that the news devastated me, would be an understatement. After doing some online ‘research’, I looked at the treatment for Peyronies, and the most recommended treatment for men with both ED & Peyronie’s is an implant. Whilst I’m not 100% certain of having an implant at my age, I am gradually coming to terms with the idea. I have fear that sensation would be lost, that I’ll lose size, that sex won’t feel as it does, complications of surgery...and the list goes on (I’m sure you’re all aware).

I seemed to have just waffled on a bit there, but I was hoping there may be one or two guys out there who’ve had the surgery in Sydney and can recommend their Urologist, I’ve booked in to see Dr. Katelaris, but there are bugger all reviews out there to assist in finding the right doc for the job.

Any help/suggestions/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Trying doing a search for Urologists in your neck of the woods, see what pops up. Better yet, put in a/the Dr you had in mind and research him or her.
I wish I knew then what I know now about researching. I was too naive and trusted the Dr. that came on board. I paid a price. I had people counting on my services before the year was out.!

Can't speak of any practitioners closer to home for you, but another Melbourne surgeon, from whom I received a Coloplast implant in May 2016: Justin Chee of Murac Health in East Melbourne. Obviously one swallow doesn't make a summer, but I was and am very satisfied with his care and the results.

Hope you have private health cover for the hospitalisation; the surgery and implant itself were not covered by either Medicare or health insurance.

Dunno about you, but I'd be disinclined to get too wound up beforehand about implant brands or surgical methods. No amount of explanation was going to qualify me - as a layman - to judge any of that. To my recollection, Mr. Chee was intending to give me an AMS, but decided on the spot to go Coloplast once he'd opened me up. That's professional judgment in action.

Men will envy and women admire, or, depending on your orientation I suppose, men will envy AND admire ... so best of luck!

Hey guys:

Got home yesterday from having surgery at University of Tennessee Medical Center on Thursday January 9th. Doing fine minimal brusing and swelling still have drain but hope to have it removed on Monday. I am amazed at this point of well I have responded. Very thankful. To you guys waiting in line the thoughts of this surgery is much worse than actual procedure. My surgeon was Dr. John Lacy. Minimal discomfort. Thanks to all you guys for your support. I hope to give back to future guys seeking an implant like you guys gave to me. Thanks again.

My implant was done my dr Katelaris I can say everything went to plan but only negative was that my penis is much narrower that before implant with the ams 700 lgx
