Time off from work

Postby exr001 » Thu Feb 27, 2020 2:55 pm

So I've been searching the forum to see how long most of you with an inflatable implant stayed out of work after getting your implant. Can't find a consolidated thread so figured I'd ask.

Two weeks for me but that was because I was being overly cautious. I basically was ready at day 6, and enjoyed the last week as an extended vacation away from work. Sure there was still some discomfort and it was there for several weeks after returning to work, but in my sit-down job I could have worked that second week.

I too spend a lot of time in an office but am concerned with my commute on the train and 1/2 mile walk to/from the station. Was thinking between 2-4 weeks might be required.

I probably could have gone back to work after one week but likely would not have been able to remain upright for a full workday (I work in front of a computer all day).

At two weeks I could have managed.

I stayed out three weeks just because I could.

Staying horizontal those first two weeks, I think, helped make my recovery more comfortable. The third week was mostly gratuitous.

I was off work for a week, but I have a desk job (standing, sitting, walking, etc. as needed).

I did not have any pain. I could have realistically gone back to work after one week at home. I am retired but I feel sure a week would have been sufficient.

Surgery on Wednesday. Following Monday, I was working and I work from home full time.
At first sitting was uncomfortable but with anatomical seat cushion, it was manageable.

I am also retired, I'm 6 days out, sitting on couch uncomfortable to get off of couch. When sitting on desk chair I have a horseshoe shaped pillow works great.

I went gym to walk treadmill 2.5 miles yesterday & 3 miles today, about an hour each day. I'm walking slow, but no discomfort. Some discomfort getting in/out of car. On my way home after operation, in NYC taxi I slid into back seat & I forgot about the pump not a great move on my part.

Last week in NYC I walked over 35 miles prior to my operation. I'm taking at time iubrofen 600mg for my discomfort. I normally go to gym 5-6 times a week, so I feel I'm in good shape 140lbs 5'6". I refuse to let this op to get me down.

Unemployed right now with this malleable, but I would say after a week for sure with this one.
As for the 3-piece, it would have to be a week and a half. I was walking a lot at work, which helped, but if I was at a desk, I would definitely have to stand, as I was still inflated at the time. No work, no pay in my case.

Great replies from various types. Helpful to me for my planning once I come to the final decision.

Thanks and keep the feedback coming.
