Gong Bionic St. Patrick’s Day
Gong Bionic St. Patrick’s Day
After several months of ultrasonic tests and insurance disappointments, I am scheduled for surgery on March 17th. My surgeon is Dr. Tajkarimi in Northern Virginia about 4 hours from my residence. He does up to 5 implants per day and from all appearances has an excellent reputation. He will be implanting an antibiotic-coated AMS device due to my T2 diabetes. He also mentioned an infrapubic incision. Other than that, no details - I guess he wants to keep his options open until he gets in there. My insurance plan has an exclusion clause so I’m biting the bullet and self paying. I am extremely nervous which I assume is normal. Interestingly, my greatest apprehensions are in dealing with the drain and catheter (both firsts for me) than any pain from the surgery. In the back of my mind, I keep thinking maybe if I stay on a healthy track functionality may “come back” naturally. But after years of sexual failures and the lost of good relationships, it’s time. At 60, I’m still relatively young and psychologically devasted by this missing part of my life. I am looking forward to a more normal life again. Thanks to all of you who have provided a wealth of personal experiences that definitely make me realize I am not alone, and in turn have helped make these life changing decisions.

When you look back on this time in your like you will think. "Why was I so concerned about getting this done?" Nat sure about your Dr but ny cath was pulled the next morning at 5:30 am. I did not have a drain so I can't comment on that one.
Notaes and I both had surgery within days of each other and neither had any pain. Yes there was swelling and a little bruising but that was taken care of with Ice.
Good luck and get excited for you new adventure!
Feel free to ask any questions. Both of us had AMS LGX installed.

There is an external catheter. Kind of like wearing a rubber. You might ask if that is an option

Most surgeons insert a Foley catheter as part of the surgery to give the urethra a more prominent profile so they can see it during surgery. This is so they don't accidentally damage the urethra while working around it. A condom catheter doesn't give that enhanced profile and would be a hindrance to the surgery instead of a benefit. It's doubtful they would remove the indwelling catheter and attach an external catheter before the patient is awoken.

Hey that's going to be your lucky day. The catheter is no big deal I had it for 10 days last year and I didn't feel it come out. about the drain, it's a weird feeling when it comes out but it's not a big deal you'll be able to deal with it and you'll be feeling so great afterwards that you had it done, I am two days out and a little sore but I am looking forward to my prize take care Junior

Was implanted this morning with an AMS 700 CX. Surgery at 9AM and back at the hotel by 1PM. No real pain, just a slightly uncomfortable stretching feeling inflated at 60% and wrapped. Only minor swelling (best I can tell). So far, (@8PM) no pain meds, not even Tylenol. Return to the Dr. on Saturday to have drain removed and then on to the road of full recovery. Thanks for all your support and Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
