Welcome to the forum, cutcliffe.
Help us out here.
What mode of transport will you be using? Bicycle? Motor home? Big difference.
Will you have a driver or will you attempt to drive yourself (bad idea, that unless you wait until you can do an emergency braking/maneuver painlessly or hit potholes)?
How far will you be travelling?
How resilient are you? (Bumper sticker I saw once: "It takes leather balls to play Rugby") I took three weeks off work - not because I am wimpy, but I had the leave time and just felt like it. Going back to work after one week would have been possible, but would probably have slowed my ultimate recovery and been uncomfortable. There is one member here who went out and mowed his lawn the day after surgery. He regretted it for several days after.
Information like that would be TREMENDOUSLY helpful.

I can either drive or fly. Have not decided. Your feedback will help in deciding which. Perriti would take 10 hr drive and Kramer 7 hr drive. I am leaning toward Kramer at the moment. I work home office so when I get back work will be somewhat easier. So on average understanding things can go wrong how many days should I initially plan to stay in Baltimore or Miami. My pain threshold is average I would say. I am making the trip by myself. I don’t mind driving and taking my time coming home. (Drive an hour or so at a time and stop for a break). So if I got there for an initial exam on a Monday and had the surgery on a Tuesday when could I expect to start the trip himself. Any guidance is appreciated.

I had surgery on a Wednesday with Dr Kramer and left on Saturday. I flew and had a 15 - 16 hour trip home , I made it ok but moved slow. I could have ridden in a car but no way would it have been smart to drive.

After surgery and anesthetic I wouldn't risk driving for at least a few days. I kept nodding off for 3 days!
And you really want someone with, or at the least a pre-arranged ride for after the surgery. Most surgeons won't release you without a driver unless you plan to stay overnight in the hospital.

If you fly, you can call the airlines ahead of time and explain that you had surgery and they (depending on the airline and availability) arrange for a wheelchair and possibly an escort. They might even do curb-to-loading gate for you.
When I made a complex (flying and driving) trip to my niece's wedding, I mailed my suit and dress shoes to my ultimate destination to avoid that in my luggage. Great convenience. I would suggest mailing all my stuff (clothes, etc) except toiletries and medical stuff back to my home if I were in your situation and planning on flying.

This is useful advice. I was planning on staying in a motel after one night in hospital and then a drive for 3 1/2 hours with multiple stops. When I get back to the farm, I have no really physical jobs to do for about 2 weeks, and then could defer any work for another 10 days if needed. Maybe based on your advice, I need to stay another couple of nights in the motel before I drive home?

I agree, I think that a day or two up front will pay off for you. Just don't do the normal guy stuff, go slooow and accept help. Good luck. My trip home was up probably 18 hours, traveling + 16 hours but had layovers which helped

I saw my implant Urologist yesterday, and he suggested 2 nights in a motel after one night in hospital.
