Not removing reservoir on complete revision

Postby Stewy78 » Mon Aug 31, 2020 6:39 am

Hi, I'm planning a revision since my ams implant is not working properly. I had a revision less than 3 months ago to change the pump but I still have the same issue so I have to change everything and put a titan that is more suitable to me.
I live in europe and I had some consultation with differente penile implant surgeons. One of them told me that he prefers to leave the old ams reservoir inside my body to avoid damages. So I will have the empty ams reservoir on the left and the new titan reservoir on the right.
Anyone else had this? What do you think about it?

Hi Steve, I'm sorry for the trouble you've had with this. I have had 4 implants in about 2 years so I can understand.
Revision 1: Used the existing reservoir on my left side.
Revision 2: Placed new reservoir on right side and left the original (left side) in place.
Revision 3: Used the existing reservoir on the right side.

All of my equipment has been Coloplast Titan but I am pretty sure I have read on here that there is no problem using the reservoir from a different manufacturer. Someone correct me if i'm wrong please.
Best of luck.

The reoperation is more difficult and enough so that many doctors who do implants do not do them. The reservoir replacement is difficult so I am not surprised at what you posted. Like only a few docs who can do a full revision with infection in some cases. There are 5 uro surgeons in my local uro group and non of them do revisions. They only do 2-3 each a year. Seems to me there would also be some time element to this. All the best doing forward with this.

I have heard its common to leave the reservoir in. Seems weird but apparently is safer.

I had my doctors visit today. Going to have another replacement. He told me he would put everything in new but would leave the old reservoir in place.
