For those who have had an implant for at least 10 years

First and only implant 01/2002. Now 73 years young. AMS Malleable. No complaints until five years ago, wife had cancer 2-1/2 years and then died. Haven't had much use for it since, maybe in the future.

You guys make a good point that it's usually people that have some trouble with ED sticking around here, but I'm sure that's not the case for everyone (as shown in the last few posts). Thanks for the valuable feedback. It was helpful to know towards my decision to get an implant or not.

My tenth anniversary is coming up on 12/10/20. My AMS LGX 700 continues to work reliably every day. About year four, when my wife was having some health issues, I neglected to activate the unit for about two weeks. I had some problems getting the valve to activate and allow me to inflate. But with some persistence, it became unstuck. Since then I activate it every day and have had no issues. Lesson learned: get hard every day.

That's good to hear!

Is it wise to activate EVERY day, even when not being used for pleasure? I know there needs to be some cycling post surgery, but not sure about long term cycling. I heard a doctor say the more it's used, the more wear and there there is, and therefore, the shorter the lifespan.

I had my first implant on 12/2011 so I'm just about 10 years. Was treated at the VA in milwaukee by Dr Margurite Cressin, originally for Peyronies which I ultimately had surgery for. The implant surgery went virtually painless and was very successful, however the surgery for peyronies took half of my 7 1/2 inches!! Other than coping with the lst length, everything has worked very well. I check out the boards every now and again in the hopes of regaining som lenght again.

Have you checked those articles on using a traction device and a VED to recover length, for those that had an implant and have previously lost a lot of length?

If it breaks. Get it fixed. My first one quit working at 10 months after hernia surgery. No admittance by anyone they did anything wrong of course. Replaced titan with lgx


If you worry how long this implant lasts. You are not ready. Soft dick no matter what you need implant. Breaks get it fixed. Period.

I just have to say that I was tired of ED and peyronies robing me or a sex life. I was worried about needing a replacement or replacements. It came across a post that made me realize know one knows how long anything lasts, if all you are worried about is how long something last maybe you are using that as an excuse for living. Trust me been there done that and now my wife and I are doing all we can to wear out my year old cock 2.0. We are enjoying it while it lasts. And cross the bridge of replacing it later if we need too

I was implanted almost 4 years ago and I was a regular contributor here on FT.
I don’t bother writing too often anymore because I’ve found that it’s pretty much a repeating conversation, which is fine but not relevant to me anymore.

FT is an excellent forum and an enormous source of shared knowledge.

I suspect that most men whose procedure has been highly successful eventually fade into the background and only very occasionally catch up on here once in a while.

My advice to all novices seeking answers is to read Merrix’s thread titled My Journal.

Merrix has the insight and writing skills which enables him to flesh out many of the most concerning aspects of the whole implant adventure.

I see where you're coming from, but I don't see why you would assume that for all people considering an implant. Maybe most, but not all. I'm in a weird situation where PDE5 inhibitors have been working sometimes (better than never), and a good doctor near me in NY doesn't accept my insurance, so I would need to decide if sticking with PDE5 is worth it. I'm still researching for other good doctors who aren't near me that accept my insurance (Multiplan, but I could get Aetna if needed. Chesapeake accepts both but they told me Kramer is no longer with them). If I can get it covered, then it may be worth it. If not, I think it's only wise for someone to pay $20-30K out of pocket for the implant (and potentially another 10-30K if a revision is needed very soon) if conservative treatments never work.

While the question I asked in this thread isn't the most important thing for someone considering an implant, it's still something I wanted to know.

Seems like you have answered your own question. If you are getting acceptable results with pills then no need for an implant at this time. After all, you still could try injections.
Don't worry. Doctors come, doctors go. Kramer will turn up somewhere in the general area. He seems to stay in that area.
