Must drive home by myself

Postby smphead » Thu Dec 03, 2020 9:58 am

Hi Bro's

I know it's against the advise but if i go for an implant i have to drive alone by myself.
I's a 3 hour drive. I have no family or friends who can drive me back.
Also staying in a local hotel or airbnb is no option because i have to leave the country within 48 hours otherwise i have to stay 2 weeks in quarantaine.
After the surgery i stay 1 night at the hospital.

Any brothers who drove home by themselves and have advices?

Thanx

Just a thought, but can you hire a driver for a round-trip? Wherever the driver starts, they would have to return so they would need a round-trip. Perhaps you can hire a medical assistant before you leave for surgery and have them stay with you and drive you home.

Hi Brother,
I also needed to do everything alone before and after the operation. From my experience, I urge you not to drive home by yourself.
The codeine+paracetamol pills left me very groggy on the first and second day after the operation. Other painkillers may also affect our ability to respond quickly so no way to drive home by ourselves. Contact the patient liaison officer to check whether they could recommend an affordable shuttle to your home.
I wish you the best of luck with your operation and healing!
Stay in touch!

PS: Plan everything in advance as you would need to stay for two weeks at home. Buy food and gently compressing underwear. The latter helps in the healing process as gentle compression of the scrotum and penis decreases the swelling and resulting pain.

DO NOT drive yourself home. You need to figure something out.

I understand your travel issue. Your transit system is set up differently from the USA. Let me throw a few ideas at you.
First, contact your surgeons office. They may have a patient liason office. I presume that you speak the language in that country. Most 3 hour drives in the Netherlands put you in a different country. If they offer such a service, ask them what other patients do for travel?
If you was to visit this area for a holiday, where would you stay? Think of your surgery as a small holiday. Maybe there is a small resort near the hospital. Maybe your surgery could be scheduled to match when you take your yearly holiday?
I've attended my wife through many surgeries. Usually the first day is not the worst. As I remember day 3 is usually the worst. If the doctor uses a nerve block. They wear off slowly. Manage your pain according to your need. I do not like pain pills. I cut them in half & only take half pills as needed. A full pill might make you too sedated.
Ok, here is my experience. Not an implant but close to it. I had a partial circumsion almost 8 years ago due to phimosis on the dorsal side of my penis. We have a small vacation home in Las Vegas. I drove my wife & I all the way there after getting out of surgery. This me was driving my almost 3,000kg truck 720km in one night. Hope I did the metric conversion correctly.
If the Dutch can take ground from the sea. You can solve this. I believe in you.
If you have a question that you would like to ask me. Just message me. It might take me a day to answer you. But I'll do my best to give you an answer.

Hi GT,

Thanx for your reply and willing to help.
My surgery is in Belgium so that's why the 3 hour drive.
It was my plan to make a little vacation out of it. But that seems to be impossible due to covid, because if i stay longer than 48 hours i have to go 2 weeks in quarantaine in Belgium and back in The Netherlands another two weeks.

There is one friend i might can ask and tell him something it's for a hernia.
I keep your comments about the painkillers in my mind.
