It sounds like the experience with Dr Tatum has been a good one. I am 3 yrs post RP this week, reside in Indianapolis and considering doing a consult with him. It looks like he is part of Urology of Indiana Men’s Clinic. I hadn’t seen he was part of this group until I saw your initial post mentioning him. Do they do procedures at their own surgery center?
Thanks for sharing your experience.

I highly recommend Dr. Tatem. If you're in Indianapolis it's a no brainer. He's smart and dedicated, and he was trained by top surgeons like Lipschultz in Houston and Perito. He's part of a younger generation that's really pushing the envelop on technique and pain management.

Well, to continue my update. Yesterday I removed both drains myself. I cut the stitches holding the tubes in place and then pulled them out. Let me just say the sensation of pulling a long tube out of my abdomen was disquieting. Not really painful, but I nearly fainted. So glad to have it out of me, as I'm much more comfortable. I'm still taking it pretty easy, getting up a little bit more but mostly sitting or laying in bed, reading and writing and plotting the myriad sexual and nonsexual ways I'm going to advance when I'm fully healed. Tomorrow I have a follow up appointment with Tatem.

Great to hear that all seemed to go well.
I’m sure you will love it.
Also, congratulations on your book.
Wish you all the best.
I just passed the 5 year mark and all still works great.
I hope I can get another 5 years out of it.
Now, just take it easy, rest, and remember that it’s worth being extra careful a few weeks in the beginning. No rush.
You’re going to enjoy your new device for many years.
I can feel some tubing on the left lower base as well if touching the “right” (rather wrong) spot, but that’s no problem. The pump will be palpable anyway, so the possibility to feel the tubes doesn’t really add any further damage as long as it’s not a hinder for sex.

I am now 34 years old, and got my first implant when I was 29, after having struggled with ED my entire life. Though my initial recovery was difficult, with some issues I have documented here in an old thread, I can say with full confidence that once I was fully healed, and once I adjusted my mind to the new reality of having a prosthetic device inside me, my quality of life went through the roof.

Now, that is not to say that all the other things in my life magically got better. It's not as if I suddenly started making more money, or increased my IQ by thirty points, or anything like that. But what changed most dramatically was my ability to focus on something without that dark, grim background of impotence staining the picture. It has been a totally different mental reality. Thanks to the peace and clarity of mind provided by the implant, of knowing that I was now capable of sex whenever I wanted, I was able to really get serious about my writing habit, and it led to me writing a book that I will be publishing in the early part of 2021.

I finally experienced the pleasure of uninhibited, unashamed sex, without explanation or apology for my dsyfunction, and what I also learned over those four years is that, really and truly, a man is not defined by his penis, by its size or functioning, and that while sex is extremely enjoyable, and even sometimes a profound experience with a loving partner, it is not the peak of existence, and that life is very much worth living even if you cannot have it. I no longer feel that my value is determined by the condition of my genitals, and that, say I were unable to have sex at all, I would still have plenty to live for, whereas, when I had ED as a younger man, and had not yet experienced sex without anxiety, I inflated (pun intended) its importance, its centrality, and assumed that it was really the most important thing in the world, and that I could never be happy without it. The implant has given me perspective and strength and confidence in myself as a complete person, regardless of my sexual functioning. All that being said, of course I am looking forward to using this bad boy, but on a deeper level, I know I am much more than that, and I wish other men who have suffered the same way could understand that as well.

A lot of questions get asked on this site and answers given but this is one of the best reflections / pieces of advice that I have seen. It is evident that you have utilised a difficult life experience to give yourself a more rounded perspective on life. Hope everything goes well with both the book and the recovery.

Went up to Indianapolis this morning for a follow up. The nurse expected to remove my drains but I already did that on saturday, so there wasn't much to do. He looked over the implant and thought everything was coming along nicely. Not much swelling or bruising. I was inflated just a bit and he deflated me completely, so now I am even more comfortable. I do marvel still at how comfortable this Titan device is so far. At least in my case, I can already easily tuck it into my pants and I can tell I'll have no trouble concealing it when necessary (not that I'll always want to be totally stealth about it, haha).

At this point I'm just dealing with a little abdominal soreness or tenderness, but it's really not bad. I'm still going to take it pretty easy for a while. No heavy hikes, no circuit training or weight lifting for a few weeks at least. I got into excellent shape before this surgery and I'm going to coast on my gains for a while, and look at this period as a cutting phase (in contrast with what is often called bulking, in the world of bodybuilding and fitness).

Dr. Tatem put together a video of my surgery. It is extremely informative, and it really showcases both his skills and his passion for the craft. He took every step to give me a good result on what is, if you think about it, a fairly technical case. I went from an AMS device with preconnected tubing and rear tip extenders installed penoscrotally to a 24 cm Titan with no rear tips, where the tubing has to be spliced during the surgery, installed infrapubically. Here it is for your viewing pleasure: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ma_MdeH ... e=youtu.be
